Trump has a habit of shooting from the hip with social media posts & naughty behavior. That’s nothing new. I wouldn’t call him an idiot for that but I do get what you mean. It’s distasteful and doesn’t do anything to help his case as far as I can see. Just don’t make the stretch of interpreting those words as illegal retaliation. The media seems to be doing that suggesting he is signaling his MAGA horde to violently attack. Such interpretation is absolutely ridiculous.

What would your thoughts be if instead of tweeting "If you come for me I'll come for you," he instead said, "When I win back the presidency, all these blatantly corrupt people involved in this illegal witch hunt are going to be investigated and possibly prosecuted."

^ Because this is most likely what he's actually saying, imo.
