I’ll give it to you with Bill Clinton and the budget surplus. But perhaps stop to consider the time he was president… We had no wars, our economy was on a natural bull ride boom from tech stock boom, and on the world stage the US had nobody even remotely close to an equal nor any real threat. Clinton had little to do with the factors that contributed to the budget surplus, but he didn’t eff it up either which is more than I can say about a lot of presidents. You should really pause to consider ALL the effects of raising taxes on corporations and the wealthy. It’s not nearly enough to make up for the massive government spending, and it comes with negative consequence. Liberals seem to think you can tax people, they pay the tax, and there is no reaction or consequences. Wealthy individuals and corporations will find loopholes, take their money elsewhere, cut down on their own budgets, etc. We can look at the taxation rate over the last 100 years which varies wildly, and the actual % of taxes the government takes in changes very little due to the aforementioned variables.

Infrastructure spending has bipartisan support. What doesn’t have bipartisan support is when Biden tries to sneak in billions of dollars in spending on useless programs that have absolutely nothing to do with infrastructure while calling it an infrastructure bill.

The part that really gets me, which I don’t understand about you, is that you are a die hard PARTISAN. News flash…both political parties are fucked up in their own way, and nobody else on these forums from what I can tell 100% buys into party bullshit quite like you do. Sure people lean left or right and vote for one party or the other which is fine. It’s dangerous and irresponsible to emphatically believe that my party = the good guys who are always honest and do the right thing. When you buy into the propaganda (from either side) without applying real critical thinking, you are just making yourself a pawn to somebody else’s power game. Thus I truly hope you are the PC’s best troll.

Bill Clinton's success as a President far outweigh his failings in the role, notwithstanding his adultery, which is a beast of it's own that makes him abhorrent. The Left back then was about reasonable progress, restoring the economic independence of the working poor and the middle class, and undoing the blatant favoritism the Republicans under Bush and Reagan gave the wealthy and corporations. Modern day Democrats are building on the social progress, but have all the other identical goals in mind.

No, American corporations don't have carte blanch to pass on their tax costs or other expenses, because the willingness of consumers to buy from competitors negates the full pass through. If corporations see higher costs and in turn choose to expand less, hire less, then that will have a blunting effect on inflation. Remember, through companies like Walmart, Amazon, Ebay, Americans have access to the entire world of production.

You can tell just how much bipartisan support there was, what with all the negotiating Mitch McConnell refused to participate in. $1.9 trillion had a third dedicated to infrastructure buildout, electronic vehicle incentives and charging stations, both of which would address inflation by reducing our dependence on oil in the long run. A non-starter to Republicans. Another $213 billion to make homes more efficient, build more affordable housing, both of which address housing inflation as well! Maybe it was $45 billion to remove lead pipes universally or $16 billion to stop gas leaks by plugging defunct wells that really hurt Republican fee fees.

Really, it's probably the unions provisions, elder care and paying for it by rolling back the deficit exploding 21% effective corporate tax rate that really killed it for Republicans. So much so they absolutely refused to negotiate. Or, maybe they just wanted to deny Biden and through him the American people any relief?

Lets face it, Republicans want to win and they want to win so far they give no fucks whatsoever about legislative action which would reduce inflation and help everyday Americans. Remind me again, how Congress has the power to draft the American budget, pass it and sign it in to law by itself. No? That's right, Clinton drafted a deficit busting budget, wooed enough Republicans to support it, then signed it into law. Go take a high school civics class dude.
