Civil Wars is really nice to listen to but it's really distracting how in their videos the lady singer is just kinda chilling most of the time. Would it kill them to give her a tambourine or something?

I kind of agree! She's often just glancing down and swaying back and forth, looking all forlorn. She's sort of the emo queen of the folk/country music scene.
