Yeah support staff are absolutely going to be sourced locally. I don't know why she went on a tangent about consultants and corporate.
Never heard of a commute? I *know* you've heard of roommates.

"Support staff"-LOL I'm support staff. Support staff at tech companies =/= unskilled or even low paying jobs. There will be some custodial staff hired I'm sure. But "support staff" means: Sales, Marketing, HR, Training, etc. PS They're not going to be hiring that local out-of-work former sales rep for the local encyclopedia company for those roles.
And you thinking my comment about consultants and high level corporate positions as the hiring funnel is a tangent just goes to show that you have no idea what you're talking about.
roommates is shots fired? put down the crack pipe, dude
"I work at a big time fancy tech company and support staff at big fancy tech companies doesn't mean janitorial staff like it does at other places!!!! We make sure they are put in their place so we refer to them as 'those who clean up our shit!' Support staff at big tech companies refers to sales, marketing, HR, training, and etc! GET A PHD IN ANTHROPOLOGY ALREADY!!
Look I'm not a doctor of feminist paramilitary anthropology that works at Google and makes enough to afford a Blizzard server. If you call your consultants and sales guys "support staff" then fine, in the real world it's the caterers, maintenance, janitorial, receptionists, and security guys. Maybe IT, depending. Just because you don't see them in your fantasy world doesn't mean they're not there.
/edit was this a way of saying you're actually a receptionist or something???
