Well, you don't want a million pissed off troops that control all the nukes and shit. It is mostly that the public cares more about the Troops than other Government employees, so Congress makes sure to push something through for them.

So apparently some Democrats were actually on a bus headed to the airport when Trump ordered the bus to turn around and take them back.

Honestly why is anyone in congress leaving the country during a government shutdown anyways? Unless it's an absolute emergency of some sort.

Simple solution. Fund the wall, open the government, then go "visit the troops."
