A halfwit can grow tomatoes, literally the easiest fruit a person grow. Why would we import tomatoes?

Avocados are a great one to use.They grow them in Florida and California. If Mexican avocados start being too pricey, that money instead will go to the domestic growers and they can expand their operations and grow in size. Hire more workers, help out the economy more. That is the point in tariffs. Yes, costs are passed to consumers, and that is the whole point, it makes domestic goods more attractive pricewise.
You also don't have to worry about your food being grown in human feces, like they do in Mexico.
