So I spoke to the vet today who had the results. It turns out she had a chronic inflammatory response caused by a virus. He said it was basically like walking pneumonia and she had had it a long time. He said because her immune system was already compromised with the calicivirus, an opportunistic bacteria probably got in and caused this. He said that because it was a chronic problem and not a new infection, that's why none of the blood work showed a problem. Apparently her body has been fighting this for a long time and she was able to keep it controlled until the trauma from the surgery/anesthesia... why she never showed a single symptom is beyond me. The doctor said it was not something we could have predicted so I should stop blaming myself, and that it could have possibly caused her demise eventually anyway but there is no way to tell for sure.
