I knew someone would get my Logan's Run reference, why am I not surprised it was Jhynnifer that grasped the message?

I propose that people get a government issued ID, it is not that hard, I have 4 of them. They need to be inexpensive to get, a few dollars, but you should have to provide some sort of official documentation that is verifiable from your country of origin and documentation from the US Government saying you are here legally, you know, all the things THAT ARE CURRENT LAW RIGHT NOW!
So you're literally proposing a new bureaucracy to issue new federal IDs for people who don't need any other form of federal ID, because right now their proof of citizenship is a birth certificate. And since you're saying it needs to be inexpensive, that means a whole lot of federal spending to keep it operational.
And of course, once such bureaucracy has been established, you can now require the ID it issues for everything.
Explain to me how that's a conservative position again?
Where did I say anything about a new bureaucracy? I must have missed that I wrote that, let me look back.,,,,,
Nope, never said that, every state issues ID's, there is a process to obtain one, have you gotten a State Issued ID since the new requirements by DHS were put into place? If not you must not drive much, at least legally since it has been in effect since 2005.
Here, let me make it easier for you: https://www.dhs.gov/real-id-public-faqs
If you can obtain an ID that meets those requirements then you have a legal status in the US.
This thread is bringing me lols: http://theslot.jezebel.com/fuck-gary-johnson-1788736643
Shit, I have 6 forms of Government ID.
a) you said this: "documentation from the US Government saying you are here legally" - that usually doesn't mean state governments. It means federal. Hence my interpretation of what you said.
b) there are a whole lot of states that are not yet compliant with the requirements of Real ID. https://www.dhs.gov/current-status-states-territories
I mean, maybe states will do it soon and it's not an issue, but it seems to me it's hard to trust a state legislature to get its act together to pass the funds needed for the change. And of course, how do all these money transfer outlets verify the DL/state ID are real? Equip them with scanners? Who pays? Are the scanners able to read all states and territories' DLs/IDs?
