The House approved this conference report version of the bill on August 3 by a 328–74 vote (Democrats 217–54, Republicans 111–20), and the Senate passed it on August 4 by a 79–18 vote (Democrats 49–17, Republicans 30–1).

In the House, 25% of Democrats voted against the act and 17% of Republicans voted against the bill. In the senate 34% of Democrats voted against the act and 3% of Republicans voted against the bill.


1964 civil rights act, voting records:

The Democratic supermajority in the Senate split their vote 46 (69%) for and 21 (31%) against. The Republicans, on the other hand, split their vote 27 for (82%) and 6 against (18%). Thus, the no vote consisted of 78% Democrats. Further, the infamous 74-day filibuster was led by the Southern Democrats, who overwhelmingly voted against the act.

By percent of party representatives, Democrats overwhelmingly voted against both acts.

Something I think you people don't realize is that the Democratic party of the 1960s was the conservative party, while Republicans were more garrulous. You cannot award accolades or shade to either party based on what they were like in the 60s.
