But I think they would have withered under the attacks by her Campaign and the media. They would have balked and apologized at some point, which would have just drained all energy from their supporters.

Trump was needed for at least this one facet, to expose and disrupt the political structure completely (both Dem and Republican). Who the hell knows how it will turn out, but we'll see.

Eh, I don't think it'll be that much different from any other Presidency. He'll speak a bit, get some things changed, but Government works slow. He might chance ACA to something else, but I don't think it is going away. I'm a little curious how he'll use Presidential powers under the War Powers Act. I honestly think we'll se a way more subdued Trump though. He doesn't need to be loud and flashy anymore.

Liberals don't get the idea of you can beat someone up during a fight (which Trump did), and at the end of it offer your hand to lift your opponent back up (Which Trump did tonight). He's won, and I think you'll see a major shift in how he approaches dealing with Democrats and Independents.

Liberals finally ran into someone that would not cower just because they threw insults at him. He fought back, and that paradigm shift is going to confuse the fuck out of them... because for so long liberals have been able to act as both the bully and the abused as it suited their needs.
