I agree with it. He did the best thing for the situation. If I was illegally carrying I'd do the same. Still, the law is the law. If he was carrying illegally and isn't punished, then why wouldn't everyone else? If he was, he needs to be punished, though the situation should dictate the punishment. I think he should get the absolute minimum, but it should go on his record.

I suspect it will be plead down to some sort of misdemeanor at the worst and I predict no jail time.

Here is what worries me....

How long does it take to "confirm" if a CCP is valid or not? I mean.. really. No one in the sheriff's department has access to a phone/or a computer?

If their CCW laws are anything like where I live, he did nothing illegal by having a concealed weapon in a store, even with the sign. You can post whatever sign you want in your business but if the law allows for conceal carry you cannot strictly prohibit it. What someone can get in trouble for is if the proprietor asks you to leave because you are carrying a weapon and you do not. Then you are trespassing and can be arrested.

Where do you live? Everything I'm seeing on the subject seems to indicate business owners can dictate gun policy on their property. You might be able to bring a gun into a businesses parking lot, but not the business itself.

I live in Georgia. The law states that I am allowed to carry concealed in any place not specifically listed as not allowed, which is basically just government buildings now. If a private business has a sign posted saying no concealed weapons allowed it is irrelevant. If they see me carrying and ask me to leave then I must do so, but they cannot prevent me from carrying in the first place.

As far as I know, that is how it works everywhere, for concealed or open carry. A sign posted by a business owner isn't the law, but if they tell you to leave then you have to respect their wishes.
