I've had two seperate incidents where a GM has stolen an item from me without mention or messaging.
Firstly, however, did you search your logs for the correct Ithzir looting messaging?
An Ithzir seer rifles through your gear! Somebody call a constable!
The Ithzir seer peers inside your hooded cloak for a moment before snatching out a blue crystal! After running a hand over the crystal for a moment to polish it, the seer drops it into her sack.
If nothing else, search for, "Somebody call a constable!"
I also autolog every time I log in. I've autologged since I rolled JD up in 1997 -- it literally takes me more than five minutes just to open my Gemstone IV --> Logs folder.
So, the first time an item of mine just randomly disappeared was in 2002. I had just cold-cocked the fuck out of Celtic, a well-known PC of a GM. In fact, the log is on the PC here somewhere if you search for it. About three hours later I went to rest at a table in the Elven Nations. When I came back (it was about 2 hours), my 10x snakeskin shield was gone out of my hand (but my longsword wasn't).
I immediately checked to see if I had slung it over my shoulder or accidentally put it away. I assited and got a referral, and the GM told me I was **ITCHY CURSED** at the **TABLE** and had **DROPPED IT**. I asked where the hell it was, then, and they said that the **JANITOR** had got it. So then I asked HOW I got itchy cursed -- the Rift I could see. Maybe a doomstone, or something. In EN? There's nothing that itchy curses! Not only that, but my LONGSWORD was still in my hand?! Why didn't I drop that?!
I wrote to feedback accusing Celtic of stealing my item because I had killed him. They never replied.
The next instance is pretty well known. I'll summarize it, however. I found a 7x very heavily crit weighted self-mana e-wave khopesh during an invasion in the EN. It was late at night and I didn't know who the owner was, so I kept it and logged off. The next morning I logged on to find ANOTHER invasion. Someone on the Voln net said there was an unkillable creature, so I came to come kill it. Mysteriously, it had the **VERY SAME** khopesh! The GMs had duplicated the weapon for the player that lost it! What they didn't bank on was me finding it -- not only did I kill this creature, I also got the duped Khopesh.
I now had **TWO** 7x VHC self-mana e-wave khopeshes. I returned one to the original owner, who was oblivious (apparently) that I had two of them.
Well, a huge ice-storm hit Elkhart, IN three days later. I was out of school for 7 days, and I didn't have power for six days. When I logged back on, the khopesh was gone. I reported and asked what happened to it, and GM-Uliq replied that "He had to take it off my person and delete it".
Furious, I e-mailed feedback. They agreed with me that it was wrong to dupe the weapon, and wrong to steal it from me. GM-Uliq then had to pull me up into the lounge and was FORCED by feedback to give me the weapon back AND get a free alteration. I altered it into a falchion, and the one that's floating around the market these days is the one I made.
So, feedback CAN come through. I netted a weapon worth over 55 million silvers for FREE, and I got to alter it!
Yeah, all I saw was:
An Ithzir scout rifles through your gear! Somebody call a constable!
An Ithzir scout rifles through your pockets, scooping up some coins!
I don't know if it could have got it during that..but then that doesnt' seem right that it would take a ring.
I would say feedback, doesn't make sense.
Angela
I was thinking the same thing...
Emeradan says, "I can assure you that the logs I've looked at are accurate."
You ask, "Ok then. Can you give me the messaging that would have shown when the ring was plundered?"
Emeradan says, "That would require delving into the actual critter plundering system, and I'm not authorized to do that."
So, he looked at the logs (which would of course show the messaging) and he claims they are accurate.. but when pressed, he can't come up with the messaging without delving into the actual critter plundering system?
I figured out what happened. The game did indeed crash while I was in OTF, and apparently my ring was looted then.

Just a screenshot of my log folder. All the 1KB files are when I was trying to log back into the game while it was still down. The highlighted 85KB file was when I got back into the game, and I was in the cottage garden in OTF, which is where you're taken when you decay.
Additionally, GM Naos reversed my decay and replaced my deed, so I see no reason for them to not return my ring too, as it was lost due to the game crashing.
Here's the link to that log:
http://files.filefront.com/Gemstone+.../fileinfo.html
And here's the line to search for if you want to look through it:
SEND[Naos] I've cleared out your Death's Sting and replaced a deed. If you need anything else, just follow through with your ASSIST. :)
If they can track my deaths and being looted way back then, then I see no reason why they can't check (or why they weren't able to tell me during my assist) to see that the game crashed at that time.
So I'm about to write to feedback again and hopefully I'll find out in a day or two what they're going to do.
The reason I overlooked this when I first looked through my logs was because I was just doing a search for variations of "a golden triple delta band" to see if/when it was looted, for those wondering.
So anyway, that's that it seems. I'm going to write to feedback, but I'm about to log into the game and assist to see if I can just resolve it there too.
I think the most important thing that we have learned is that every one should have a folder named "Samuel L Jackson" on their hard drive.
Got my ring back!

*** Host Wyrom is here to answer your assist. ***
You turn to Wyrom and cheer!
>
Wyrom says, "Hello Methais."
Wyrom tried to join your group, but your group status is closed. Type "GROUP OPEN" to let him join you.
You say, "Evening."
You reach out and hold Wyrom's hand.
<MOVING TO ANOTHER ROOM>
Wyrom asks, "How can I help you this evening?"
>
Wyrom smiles.

You feel more refreshed.

* Tirayana just bit the dust!
You say, "This is most likely going to requre a GM referral, but I'll explain..."
>
Wyrom says, "Sure."
>
Wyrom nods.
You say, "I assisted last night about an item of mine that mysteriously disappeared, and was told that it was looted off my corpse."
You say, "This happened on February 22 according to my logs."
You say, "Anyway, I figured out exactly what happened."
>
Wyrom nods.
>
You feel more refreshed.
You say, "The game crashed, and as a result of that I died, my ring was looted, and then I decayed."
You say, "Upon logging back in, GM Naos replaced my deed and reversed my death and decay and removed my death's sting."
You say, "I just hadn't realized I was missing that item too."
You say, "I actually didn't evne notice it was gone until last night."
>
Wyrom nods.
You say, "So I'm looking to get the item replaced, as it was lost due to a game crash."
>
* Zarghov just bit the dust!
You say, "That pretty much sums it up I think."
>
A breeze from outside blows loose bits of soot and ash into the room.
>
You feel more refreshed.
>
Wyrom asks, "Was the ring registered?"
You say, "I believe so, yes."
>
Wyrom asks, "And what was the exact description on the ring?"
>
You say, "The base description is."
You say, "A golden triple delta band."
You say, "And the show was..."
>
You feel more refreshed.
>
Wyrom says, "No need for the show."
You say, "Alright."
>
Wyrom says, "Just the base works."
>
Wyrom smiles.
You nod.
>
* Sharnak just bit the dust!
>
Wyrom asks, "And do you share your account with anyone, by any chance?"
You say, "Nope."
>
Wyrom nods.
>
You feel more refreshed.
You say, "According to the report I sent in at the time requesting my death and decay be reversed, the crash took place at approximately 3:30 am, CST I'm assuming."
>
Wyrom says, "Ok, I just want to explain that if the item was lost to normal game mechanics, it isn't gauranteed to be replaced, however, if it was in fact the game that crashed, then you may just be in luck."
>
Wyrom nods.
You nod.
>
Wyrom says, "But I will go ahead and set a referral up for you."
>
Wyrom says, "Just give me a moment to get that up and going."
>
Wyrom smiles.
You say, "Hopefully the fact that GM Naos fixed my death and decay will be enough evidence that it was due to a crash, as it all happened in the same death."
You nod to Wyrom.
>
You feel more refreshed.
>
Wyrom asks, "Could you go ahead and tap a container for me?"
You tap an acid-stained alchemist's coat that you are wearing.
Wyrom says, "Thanks."
>
Wyrom smiles.
You feel more refreshed.

In the alchemist's coat you see a pure white runestaff, a tiny black casket, a Glaesen Star ticket, a scoop of leftover hash, a sturdy razern key and the following:
7 Magic: a ruby amulet, a blue crystal, a white crystal, a small statue (x4)
11 Scrolls: a faded palimpsest, a sheaf of golden paper, a glittering scroll, a golden scroll (x2), a light scroll, an obscure scroll (x2), an old scroll, a smeared scroll, a yellowed scroll
1 Wands: an oaken wand
5 Herbs: a white flask (x3), some acantha leaf (x2)

I could not find what you were referring to.
You nod.
You try hard not to grin.

You no longer feel the effect of casting mana leech.

Wyrom asks, "Go ahead and look inside that container?"
You need a free hand to pick that up.
You put an ale-stained scroll in your alchemist's coat.
You remove a golden triple delta band from in your alchemist's coat.
>l my band
The thick gold of this band supports a striking geometric setting. One large triangle is composed of three smaller delta symbols joined to each other at the tips, leaving a fourth perfect triangle in the negative space. Inscribed on the triangles, one to each, are the words "Courage," "Wisdom" and "Power." On the inside of the band, a flowing engraving reads "Triforce."

You feel more refreshed.
You turn to Wyrom and cheer!
Wyrom asks, "Look familiar?"
>
You exclaim, "Awesome, thanks!"
You dance around the room to music only you can hear.
You say, "Yep that's the one."
You turn to Wyrom and cheer!

Wyrom turns to you and cheers!
You slide a golden triple delta band onto your finger.
You let out a cheer!

Wyrom asks, "Alright then! Was there anything else I could help you with this evening?"
You say, "That should cover it, thanks a ton."
You shake hands with Wyrom.

Wyrom says, "You're welcome. You have a good night, Methais."
You exclaim, "You too!"
You wave to Wyrom.
