I just can't believe the civilian side of the house thought they could just keep doing business as usual, without the backing of the small contingent of military forces that had remained in country.

That's one of the biggest points I would like to see their internal thought processes on.

We controlled the security of the country just a few weeks ago, why we wouldn't be demanding everything from the Taliban in exchange for our withdraw is nothing short of mind boggling. I'm sure the personnel in Syria, are surprised to discover they actually aren't.

Things like this from the Commander in Chief is scary. We have approximately 1000 operators in Syria battling. Biden says "we don't have any troops in Syria".

Things like this are disturbing. It's sad to watch.

So apparently US AND UK citizens are trapped in Kabul because they can't make it to the airport (even though idiots such as Solkern said the Taliban are "letting them" go to the airport.) The UK however is sending paratroopers INTO Kabul to rescue their stranded citizens. Meanwhile Biden has told US citizens he won't rescue them and they need to find their own way to the airport.

Is this also Trump's fault?

I had been reading something about how the Taliban had all but disappeared by 2004. They had gone back to their families and were living their lives. Local "warlords" had been reporting their enemies to the US to get them to kill them while accepting supplies and money fromt he US. They were oppressing the people in the areas and causing people to get fed up and come back to the Taliban again fairly recently.

This was just one account so take it with a grain of salt but it adds up.

Biden gets elected and scrapped it all. Because he had to "do it his way". Because anything with Trump's name on it "had to be destroyed"... all because "Orange man bad". Again.. "Party" over the "People".

This isn't rocket science. Plenty of blame to go around for 20+ years. As stated, my personal opinion we should have left after Osama was killed. But this situation, and how it's unfolded is squarely on this Administration.

Here's a joke. Trump negotiates a deal with the Taliban and excludes the recognized government of the country. In the agreement, Trump agrees to withdraw all foreign troops within 14 months of the Taliban will just please please stop winning. Which they didn't do and yet Trump still reduces the number of foreign troops from 17,000+ to less than 2,500 before he left office in January.

Now, this entire time the draw down deal is being affected by Trump's administration from January 2020 to January 2021 and no major effort is conducted to remove American civilian contractors or gold star families. Come April 2021, just a couple of weeks from Trump's full withdrawal time line and three months in office Biden announces.. a withdrawal, extending the American presence until September, because guess what, oh shit all these Americans are still in the country and Trump didn't evacuate more than his happy meal box.

So let's summarize. Two party negotiations for a three party deal, American troops needed to secure withdrawal are bought home, without the secure withdrawal. The supposed negotiations between Taliban and Afghanistan forces negotiated by the 2020 agreement never happened, because they were still shouting each other afterwards mutually violating the limited ceasefire.

All of this before Biden even took office.

So let's see. Trump announces empty negotiations and withdrawal from Afghanistan, presumably to help his re-election which fails to materialize on any front. President Biden, now six months in office is now the bringer of all evils from prior to his taking office. Right, makes total sense.

I absolutely love how Mccarthy and Lindsay Graham are blaming President Biden for not extending the presence in Afghanistan after seeing how badly Trump fucked it all up in his final year in office.
