What Are You Wearing?

Didn't you guys hear....shadowy black is this year's "In". Maybe it just fits an evil Luukosian warrior...i dunno.



You see Raidek Tamond the Destroyer.
He appears to be a Faendryl Dark Elf.
He is shorter than average. He has piercing dark-rimmed pale green eyes and soft, unblemished very pale skin. He has long, jagged cut jet black hair streaked with red at the tips. He has sharp pointed ears.
His face is concealed by a shadowy black mask.
He has a chaotic pattern of asymmetrical markings inked along every inch of flesh.
He is wearing a shadowy black slashed velvet pouch, a pitch black spidersilk pack, a tattered Faendryl warcloak, some shadowy black armor, and a shadowy black helm.

So what's the difference between a normal tattered black cloak, and a Faendryl Warcloak?

Its a cloak thats been made for WAR.

This elven-made warcloak has softened with age, even though it is a bit tattered. The soft supple leather is radiant with a polished gleam proving a well loved artifact. Upon the back of the warcloak is a stylized emblem of the Ta'Faendryl, which has been viciously slashed in an attempt to disgrace the house.

This was my very first alteration...since Raidek's backhistory was in the Faendryl military. Then after I got betrayed by Faendryl a few months ago, Raidek slashed the cloak.

This makes the Faendryl-player in me want to cry. Not because I <3 the Faendryl and someone is disgracing them but because.. that alteration probably belongs in the wrong thread. O_o

I'm curious, why do you think that this is such a bad phrase for the alter?

Because you can't look at something and know the intent behind something on it, ESPECIALLY things like slashes.

My human would likely look at a Faendryl wearing a cloak with a Faendryl crest on the back, see the slashes and think, "Oh, he must have been slashed in battle or in thorns."

She wouldn't be like, OH those slashes are intended to disgrace house faendryl!

Beyond that, I'm not a whole fan of the warcloak thing. I still don't know the difference between a warcloak and a normal cloak. It goes in with my "Show- don't tell policy" of clothing alterations.

I can agree with your stance on the issue of forcing another to know the intentions. However, I do think that the difference between a warcloak and a cloak should be pretty obvious to others because in my opinion, the style of a 'warcloak' is different than the style of a 'cloak'. It is made differently in my mind's eye.

I failed to mention that the shape of the "vicious slash" is "FAENDRYL STINK"....zorro style.

Bam, disgraceful.


Or more seriously...it's up to you really to determine, and everyone is entitled to their opinion about stuff. But if you take, for example in the Anime, Naruto...all of the ninja's wear a headband with their village's emblem on it. Some people who were ran off, or left the village, slashed through their emblems. It was pretty much known what the slash meant.

Doesn't make it any less ugly an alter.
