I have recently had my eyes opened with regards to paying attention to how my character looks. It's really helped me connect with my character on a level that I hadn't, before. Here, then, is my first foray into making him look like something other than a random collection of grey items:

I'll be replacing the "large grey silk sack" and the "deeply hued veniom combat harness" with things that match the feel of the character a bit better when I am able.
Very nice, and good work for a first-timer.
Now try changing clothes everyday, twice a day. ;)
*grin* Thanks. Actually, I've got myself a small collection of (not quite as nice) clothing for him to wear that I'll swap out now and again, and I'm going to continue to slowly build up his wardrobe. I'm happy with how he turned out.

Surprisingly light, the fabric shifts elegantly with each movement to create a billowing effect.

Ring matches with Tsalim's. He designed them to have both of their elven flanks together. I love it.
ring: A perfect circle of obsidian forms the base of the piece, with the exterior edge roughly knapped to give the impression of a thick rope of thorns. An amalgam of misty white rhodium and grey platinum filigree is sinuously woven among the gleaming black spines, the delicate knotwork pattern finding purchase in the obsidian valleys.

Beaded in an intricate pattern across the top of this valise are a series of tiny gemstones ranging from faceted amethysts and emeralds to milky quartz and white jade, the design shaped into several blooming nightshades. A thin invar-plated, carved mistwood handle rests on either side of a simple invar toggle clasp.
case: Inlaid beneath a thin layer of clear lacquer are small witchwood branches, each stalk preserved to retain the silvery hue of the leaves perfectly. The plants contrast sharply with the dark tones of the wood, the grain of it keeping with the gnarled appearance of the tree with the swirls and jagged lines within. A pair of thin leather loops is used to secure the case to the belt, while a pewter crest of a cracked panther skull eclipsing a crescent moon sits on the lid.

What appears to have been at one point a normal set of brown full leather has been 'improved' by a gnomish crafter. Curiously-shaped bits of steel have been fitted into various parts of the leather at odd angles. It's impossible to say for sure, but the intent appears to have been to provide extra protection, or even comfort. A strange-looking piece of mithril has been stained a deep umber and woven into the fabric at the base of one sleeve, possibly serving as some gnomish tailoring mark. You also notice a small enchanter's glyph.

A few quick notes:
Just bought the weapon-displayer and instantly felt cluttered as soon as I put it on -- keep it or ditch it? Move it up or down?
Seems a little redundant to wear a tabard and a longcoat, so I'm hoping at CCF to alter them into "a sleeveless (adjective, color up to 7 characters) kidskin tabard" and "a blackened veniom-threaded greatcloak." I think that will make a little more sense.
Armband is a gold ring holder. Hope to get it altered if they can be. Wristlet is an amulet holder, thinking about replacing it with "an ebon-banded brushed silver circlet" from CCF. Band is my FWI transporter, eventually plan on getting it altered.

I'm rank amateur, but, I have found that I don't like weapon displayer sheathes for the very reason you mentioned. Maybe it's just me. I don't even like to wear my weapon harness in town, I pull it out and change my garb when I hunt.

Conceptually, Ariyn wears silver, black and grey, so I'm not going to branch out into other colors at this point, but I have tried to find some stuff that is a bit more descriptive. Midnight black, dark, ink black, etc... I even found some 'tall ebony side-strapped boots' that aren't in this particular outfit, but will be soon.

Personally I like both outfits very much. Simple, to the point and not overly long. Not a lot of men in GS take the time to create an outfit separate from hunting and then take more time to change..

He is wearing an orb-inset fel talisman, a jackal-crested black surcoat, a night black Mestanir war harness, a multipocketed matte green rucksack, a suit of practical military-style spiked battle plate, an intricate bloodjewel and onyx band, an old cracked leather belt pouch, and some polished black riding boots.
Talisman: Tendrils of fel curl around a bloodjewel orb, each finger of dark wood shaped into a slender claw tipped sharply at each end. The orb is the deep, dark red of a pure bloodjewel, nearly black towards the middle that lightens to a vivid scarlet hue along the surface of the orb. Along the orb's bottom, elegantly etched words alongside the slim outline of a jackal are filled in with obsidian.
There appears to be something written on it.

The stone itself is an elongated oval cabochon, the star within clear and perfect in symmetry, surrounded by a spiky sun-shaped narwhal ivory setting. A chain of fine white-gold links suspends the stone in such a way that it will rest over the third eye when worn.
Ring:
Carved from a single piece of bone, faintly yellowed with age, the band is a neverending loop of tiny otters frolicking in the surf of the ocean.

Hairsticks:
Despite their obvious age, long past the point of function, the three golden wands have been kept and put to new use as ornaments. Time has deepened their hue to a richer tone but failed to dull the lasting craftsmanship of the carving on the handles. Each is covered in flames rendered in classical stylization, embellished here and there with thin curls of vaalin.
Pendant:
A small black scorpion has been forever captured in solid amber, livened by flecks of seeds and tiny air bubbles that still fail to obscure the scorpion's glistening dark carapace. The amber has been rounded and polished into a cabochon and mounted very simply on silver, then strung on a short chain.
Mantle:
The base of this abbreviated mantle is a layer of soft, thick suede, nearly invisible under the fluffy overlay of glossy feathers in tones of dark, burnished gold and emerald green. Most of the feathers are shorter in length, save a spray of long, showy black tailfeathers along the right edge of the mantle. A single twisted silk cord serves to fasten the mantle over one shoulder and under the opposite arm, rakish and asymmetric in style.

Half-mask:
Made from two panels of flexible leather that cover the nose and mouth, the half-mask is dyed a deep black to contrast with the bronze framework embracing it. Leather straps attach to several gears on the cheeks to tighten the fit, thin copper-brass alloy chains connecting them to another pair near the jaw. Twin slits rest on each side, allowing air to pass easily and revealing the silk mesh lining beneath.
Choker: amulet holder
Case: Gnome toolkit case, gear zests.
Boots:
Propped up on short fel heels, the boots rise to encase the calf to the knee in darkly tanned leather. Fastening along the outer edge are a series of thick buckles, each one crafted to lay flat against the boots. Thin plates of burnished bronze cover the toes, while more wrap around the ankles to twine down around the heels.

Cuff (amulet holder): Made from raw strips of flexible mistwood and oak, the cuff is latticed across the whole with chainsil ribbon. Obvious care has been taken to create this piece, the tiny stitches of gold-threaded leaves on the ribbon barely visible against the russet hue.
Bliaut, cuff, pants and boots finished tonight. I'm rather satisfied with it.

Hairsticks: Lengths of dark silver lor are carved in a spiraling design to form these six hairsticks, each one sharpened at the end to a wicked point. Thin, flexible eahnor webbing is strung and wrapped around each hairstick, creating a bloodlike fan between each one to hold a hairstyle in place.
Headpiece is an amulet holder.
Gown: Created to fit to the female form from over the bust to mid-thigh, the fiery red silk gown reaches knee-length in front while falling to the ankle in the back. Gold-threaded detailing flutters down the left side of garment, feathers and coils of fire licking down to the tastefully tattered hem. A single piece of molded bronze-gold alloy splays up over the left shoulder to grip around the neck, the visage of a phoenix rising up from the gown as its wing spreads across the open back.
Armbands are scripted from the Dragonfly Festival.

She has very long, silken niveous hair pulled back from a widow's peak to fall in a riot of silver-frosted curls and coils that brush the back of her knees. She has a delicately structured, aristocratic face, a small nose and slightly upswept pointed ears. She has several lines of silver-hued cicatrices along her jaw and hairline. An ebon-hearted deep sanguine despanal is positioned between her eyes, which casts a sparkling crimson sheen across her face.
She has a burning flame tattoo on her neck.
She is wearing a floor-length hooded ebon silk duster with fanning lace sleeves, a long-line grey bourde corset laced with braided sanguine silk cords, a cap-sleeved soft grey silk blouse, an invar-bound pale silk valise, a bustled grey bourde skirt, and a pair of two-toned silk slippers.
Despanal:
Swirling depths of deep sanguine form this flawless gem, its rich hue revealing the dark magic that created it. Fashioned into a traditional cabochon shape to rest in a setting of eahnor, no facets mar the smooth surface of the blood-hued stone. Roiling within its darker, ebon heart are shadows with pinpoints of starry vaalin flecks that spark a muted crimson light.
Corset is an altered lacing one from EG last year.
Blouse:
Sewn from soft grey silk, the blouse features off-the-shoulder capped sleeves and a pintucked waist. Tiny white moonstones embraced by nacre serve as buttons that fasten down the front, matching hued lace adorning the neckline and sleeves.
Valise was posted already.
Skirt:
Pewter-pinstripped charcoal bourde has been fashioned to fall to floor length, then gathered into a layered bustle held in place with mother-of-pearl pins. A double row of nacre-inlaid silver buttons rests at both hips to fasten skirt, each one etched with a single crescent moon. Perfect white lace peeks out from the bottom of the skirt, tiny opaline moonstones glinting in the light amidst the froths.
Slippers:
Intricately formed silver heels give the slippers a bit of height, the burnished hue flawless in their twisted design. Stiff grey brocade forms the toes and heel coverings, while layered black silk crosses over the arches to fasten on the outsides with tiny silver clasps.

Three slender rings compose this impressive trio, the middle one set with a single brilliant firestone. The outer two have been crafted in a filigreed pattern that resembles tiny flames, frozen in a fiery dance. The golden flames appear to lick inward toward the firestone, holding the center ring captive in a blazing embrace.

You look closely at Kennyrran, examining an ivory-boned sky blue linen corset. Serviceable, inexpensive linen dyed a delicate sky blue hue is lined with a thin layer of ivory cotton. Rigid, sharply curved ivory boning is visible from the exterior, reinforcing the hourglass shape of the corset. A row of silver grommets are placed at the back from top to hem, threaded with narrow, ivory suede cording, and capped with turquoise beads.
You look closely at Kennyrran, examining an ora-clasped mistwood case. Finely grained mistwood, sanded to a smooth perfection, is lacquered heavily to protect the naturally light wood from the elements. A lining of bleached cotton protects its contents and a rounded, teardrop-etched shard of ora serves as the clasp.
Kennyrran shows you a small black tattooed mark.
Scarred tissue, filled with an deep black ink, provides a macabre frame for a dark crimson teardrop. Ash grey highlights have been drained into the ebon black ink, creating shadows and depth to further the image of a brand against her skin. A small scar runs a jagged curve around the teardrop, giving an eerie coral highlight to the crimson hue, while a slender chain of black links holds the teardrop captive within its scarred prison.

I tried Plat because I needed a change of pace. As much of a "goodie" character Stunseed is in Prime, Auvreaian is an "evil" character in Plat. It's a huge change in the fact that you don't have to be a merchant in Plat, either. Silvers have meaning, and not really spent in such an easy manner.Quote:

Cut from stiff pieces of ebon-dyed leather, the quiver and sheath have been bound together by thin dark blue doeskin straps fastened with small mithglin buckles. Lining the interior of the sheath is thickly woven wool dyed to match the straps, while supple doeskin of a dark silvery hue pads the inside of the quiver. A wide strap runs from the opening of the quiver to run across the chest and ends at the bottom of the sheath, a flat mithglin buckle resting down near the hip aids in adjusting the length.
Kit:
Thin, smooth pieces of black mithglin are plated over stiffened darkly finished leather, each piece of the kit connected by waxed bowstring laced through brushed damascene grommets. Clasping the kit on either side are tiny nacre crescent moons, each one clipped carefully to the body. Adorning the lid are small slivers of radiant glowbark that fall into the design of a full grown glowbark tree, silver leaf inlay is placed along the edges to give it depth and more reality.

A single piece of molded gold alloy splays up over the left shoulder to grip around the back of the neck, the visage of a phoenix rising up from the gown as its wing spreads across the open back.

Tiny slivers of lapis, azure blazestar, and ivory speckle the pale blue blown glass wings of this replica insect. Every aspect of the moth is perfectly detailed, from the wire curves of its six legs, to the feathery tips of its vaalin antennae. While the thorax is formed of brushed pewter imflass, the abdomen of fused glaes houses delicate gears that notch with miniscule precision.

A thick layer of volcanic ash and soot covers a shark's tooth earring, an arcing dark iron collar, a shark's tooth pendant, a back-split dark velvet frock coat with exaggerated cuffs, a fitted white linen shirt with elbow-tied loose sleeves, a delicate blue ribbon wristlet, some hip-slung onyx satin pantaloons, and some knee-high dark leather boots.
Collar:
A single thin strip of iron is designed to wrap around the back of the neck with an intricate clasp in the front. Twin pieces of arching dark iron splay down the front, silvered detailing giving the piece of twining metal a latticed look. Spiraling downward, the twin pieces layer and cross over one another before dropping even further, the tip of the last piece suspending a single faceted bloodjewel teardrop.
Wristlet was a gift from a very close friend, has a custom loresong to his history with Niima.
A single glossy satin ribbon ties in an intricate sailor's knot to create a simple accessory. The fabric is dyed the rich blue hue of the sea under sunlight, darker where the ribbon curls upon itself to form the closure.

Shadows cling to the length of curved modwir comprising the bulk of the bow, seeming to shift and dance over the wood's surface as if of their own volition. They contrast starkly with the bright silver hue of the bowstring. Curving rose vines writhe over the surface of the wood, possessed more of thorns than of blossoms. They culminate in wreathes of unfurled leaves at either end of the wood. You also notice a small enchanter's glyph.

Matching pale ivory silk lines the deceptively soft green suede into which rigid silver stays have been stitched to provide the necessary contour and support. Embroidered into the flattering V-shaped front panel are umbels of tiny white hemlock flowers and glossy ebon nightshade berries nestled amid verdant clusters of variegated leaves.

The guard and pommel is made of a set of the same twisting vines, folded in on each other, with very specific spaces set for fingers and hand. Two thin metal spikes are attached to the handle of the dagger. They are angled so that they lie parallel to one another, against the length of the weapon. Tightly coiled steel springs are clearly visible beneath the spikes. The springs appear to be in absolutely perfect condition. You also notice a small enchanter's mark.

show: The long, narrow blade of this weapon is squared at the base, giving it four sharpened cutting edges that rise to an exquisitely fine point. Near the guard, a notch has been cut into the metal and honed keenly to create a useful tool in first snagging, then cutting purse strings. The crossguard itself is simple and unobtrusive, existing as a simple oval of metal just large enough to eclipse the hilt. Leather cross-wraps the maoral of the grip, creating crimson windows above a pommel of bloodjewel.

Pewter-pinstripped charcoal bourde has been fashioned to fall to floor length, then gathered into a layered bustle held in place with mother-of-pearl pins. A double row of nacre-inlaid silver buttons rests at both hips to fasten skirt, each one etched with a single crescent moon. Perfect white lace peeks out from the bottom of the skirt, tiny opaline moonstones glinting in the light amidst the froths.
Slippers:
Intricately formed silver heels give the slippers a bit of height, the burnished hue flawless in their twisted design. Stiff grey brocade forms the toes and heel coverings, while layered black silk crosses over the arches to fasten on the outsides with tiny silver clasps.

Welp, its been awhile. I was afraid to let the truth be known, but...I've moved over to Plat. Took some getting used to, and I've tried the summer trial before...for all of about....a few hours and hated it.
While there's less people, there is a lot more roleplay interaction. And even though the park isn't drowning with people like it is in Prime, I get more "play" in, in Plat than Prime.

She is wearing a bronze-rayed sun pendant partially eclipsed by a flat river-tumbled stone, a layered gauze-weave burnoose of bleached white cotton, a pebbled lizard skin half bodice dangling a cerulean tassel from its pointed back, a sideless raw silk tunic with loose pointed sleeves, a pair of wide bronze wrist cuffs inlaid with mosaics of ivory and turquoise, and a long hip slung skirt of wispy saffron silk veils.
Pendant is my amulet holder, cuff is a gold ring holder, tunic is armor concealer, and had a little NPC interaction while hunting and long story short, ended up with a pet slug:

Simple by design, this jerkin has been cut from supple black suede and tailored to fit comfortably over armor without hindering mobility. Braided leather ties criss-cross down the front, holding the jerkin closed while still allowing for minor adjustments to the fit.

These gloves seem to be worn and frayed from extensive use. They contain a small pocket that looks about the right size to hold a gem, and as you look more closely the pockets do seem to bulge as if there may be something hidden within. A small dark silver threaded insignia of two crossed swords over a tall pile of coins has been stitched across the back of each glove.

Constructed entirely out of ragged rat hides stitched together by leather thread, the sack has probably not seen better days since its manufacture. Across the side is stitched, "Ratolin's Rat Catching Services."

Carved from an exceptional piece of glowbark, the luminous clasp is intricately etched across its surface with what could be described as an incomplete maze. The pattern curves sinuously along the clasp, with several sharp angles here and there among its many curves. A small symbol can be faintly seen within the center of the design.
The clasp bears a small circular slot fitted with a polished gold ring.

Designed to be wound from the lower hand to mid forearm, these supple black leather wraps are frayed and mottled from untold years of use. The portions meant to cover the wearer's palms are glossy and worn thin, and the remaining lengths of leather meant for the arms are stretched and deeply etched from scratches and abrasions. At the end of each strip is a burnished steel hook and loop clasp, used for securing the wraps once they have been tightly fitted.

Each wrap has been cut from a single length of suede offering enough length to wrap about the foot and up the calf. Folded spidersilk lines the strips, supplying ample padding during travels.

He is wearing a small fur pouch suspended from a twisted silk cord, a winter-weight polar bear fur parka with an oversized hood, a long-sleeved white camouflage leather jacket with a high collar, a thigh-length snow white silk tunic, a rune belt, a tightly woven spidersilk sack, a pair of baggy snow pants bound from knee to ankle in white silk, and some rugged snow boots wrapped in polar bear fur.
This one is ... well insulated. As a side note -- He now has to add a cloak into the mix he's already wearing, so any advice on an alternate noun that would fit well would be appreciated.
