I did. The apartment I lived in cost a fortune. And I don't live in either Boston or NYC any more, which is why I can speak from experience.

I am not a professional though. I think I make a fair wage for student.

Please. Tell us more about yourself and how your own experiences are indicative of both the Boston and NYC populations as a whole.

Mmmmm, well, I suppose there's good deals in JP and Dorchester (Boston), and Brooklyn and Harlem, but I lived in Fenway and Chelsea. Even in Dorchester and/or Brooklyn, 18k a year isn't going to cut it.

HUD determines your "proper" household expense to be 1/3rd your salary or less. Find me an apartment for $500 a month anywhere in NYC that doesn't have 5 people crammed into a 2 bedroom.

I just got a sweet deal for a place in medford. $650 a month, includes everything.

Fucking Medford is past the end of the red line, you're not even in the city at that point.

Edit: And yet it's $650 a month, 7,800 a year, which is a third of a salary of 23,400 a year.
