Jesus you're fucking clutching that belt HARD.
time4fun.. show him what you got!
At some point the GOP's going to turn on this guy. He's putting trump in the crosshairs and I'm starting to think that he isn't going to run again unless it's for POTUS.Quote:
Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.) said he plans to introduce an ethics reform bill requiring presidential and vice presidential candidates to release their tax returns.
Sasse on Wednesday said President Trump's refusal to release his tax returns, a break from longstanding tradition, has soured public trust in Washington.
"There are things about the tax returns provision [of the bill] that have been a norm of American politics for decades," Sasse, a frequent critic of Trump, said on CNN. "It’s never been a law but everybody has always done it. This is the first time it hasn’t happened."
"The president’s said he would release them once he got the nomination, and then once he got elected," Sasse continued. "I think there’s a lot of distrust. We should release them."
We all knew this was coming though. Because of trumps abuse of our values and norms we're going to have to write new laws. It's just the way it works. All's well until one asshole ruins shit and that's how you get government and laws.
And we have a little more good news today:
Reddit has banned a forum dedicated to the QAnon conspiracy theory, saying users repeatedly violated its content policies.
"As of September 12, r/greatawakening has been banned due to repeated violations of the terms of our content policy,” a Reddit spokesperson said in a statement to The Hill. “We are very clear in our site terms of service that posting content that incites violence, disseminates personal information, or harasses will get users and communities banned from Reddit."
QAnon followers believe in a vague and far-reaching conspiracy theory that posits a “deep state” plot against President Trump and a vast pedophile ring among elites.
This is good too. Lots of good news today. The bad news is that we have to have to waste time and energy on these things at all.
A Louisiana mayor on Wednesday reversed his order banning his city’s Parks and Recreation Department from purchasing Nike products over the company’s ad partnership with NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
Kenner Mayor Ben Zahn did not apologize for the policy, but said that it "placed Kenner in a false and unflattering light on the national stage,” according to The Times-Picayune
Whataboutism for days.
His plan is that in the gap between Midnight and Noon (when his successor is sworn in) he'll pick the replacements for the three justices who are retiring effective at midnight. It's that lameduck 12 hours that he sees as an opportunity to deny his successor the opportunity to pick justices but also to pack the court in his own image. To thwart this the new Governor may get sworn in at Midnight and then they'll have to fight it out to see who to real governor is for those 12 hours. Maybe they'll have 2 governors. There's also a possibility that Scott wins his Senate bid and gets sworn in to the senate 6 days earlier than the new governor gets sworn in. In that case his Lt. Governor would be in charge for 6 days and it would fall to this person to stack the court at the last minute.Quote:
On Jan. 8, 2019, a new governor of Florida will be sworn in. On that same day, three of the Florida Supreme Court’s seven justices will complete their final terms. Based on those facts alone, you might assume that the new Florida governor will have the opportunity to select these justices’ replacements. That, however, is not at all clear—because current Republican Gov. Rick Scott has declared his intent to replace them hours before his term concludes. He is now moving forward with this plan to pack the court. And the only people who can stop him are the current justices themselves.
To carry out this scheme, Scott has seized upon language in the Florida Constitution which, he asserts, gives him to power to make “midnight appointments” (as one Scott ally has described them). Under the state constitution, a new governor’s term begins “on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in January.” Meanwhile, a retiring justice’s term ends “on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in January.” Due to mandatory age limits, three justices—all left-leaning—face mandatory retirement on this date. The question is when, precisely, their retirement takes effect.
It's because of shit like that that we have "big government" in the first place.
