That actually explains a lot. He always seems to think he's extremely well-informed, but his take on things is always incredibly distorted and leaves out facts that are not only important but also widely known. Then once you start bringing up those facts, he starts ranting and raving.

That's all consistent with someone who spends a lot of time reading up on the news but who relies exclusively on politically biased sources with very little regard for the truth.

1) BOTH Republicans AND Democrats funded Steele's research. Please stop regurgitating ridiculous talking points like "This is Democratic opposition research, and therefore can't be trusted". Also Steele had no idea whom the client was at any given time during his research- which means the source of the funding is irrelevant. 2) I'm talking about the part where he took his findings to the FBI. He had to go into hiding after that, and now he's on a Russian hit list. When you say "the" sanctions- you are eliding two VERY different things: existing sanctions imposed by the Obama administration, and the sanctions that the Trump administration finally (after months of refusal) enacted. And the latter sanctions were incredibly weak. In fact, some of the entities on the list were already sanctioned.

I'm genuinely curious- is this a situation where you are so holed up in right-wing news sources that you don't actually know what's going on in the world? Or is this a situation where you are intentionally distorting the facts because you think it makes for an effective argument?

He likely is on a hit list, and if he worked for the British intelligence agency and was somewhat successful then he probably did piss off the Soviets and then the Russians but somehow his being on the list is all because of this dossier.
