Did she get the job? Did they keep her board? WTF is a resume sleeve?
I never had my college intern/employees do this kind of strangeness... it was definitely other kinds of strangeness!
Nada made me frown today because I slept through most of it. Well, waking up made me frown.
While this is late, and wont make a difference, every RA makes an about me bulliten board. They were quite impressed by the board and my drive. I'm glad you all think leaving college with as little debt as possible is childish and stupid. oh well.
It may sound "silly" but when they're dealing with tons of applicants and it is a job where you'll be making bulletin boards often it can be a great way to demonstrate your creative ability as well as give them something they weren't expecting. I was told to make myself stand out by one of the interviewers, to do something no one else would do, and that is what I chose and they were excited and impressed by the board. They kept bringing it up in a positive manner during the interview. So it may sound silly, but it may also be the item that makes me stick in their mind, which would ultimately get me the position which cuts my tuition more than in half and builds my resume.
So it may sound silly, but if anyone took the time to actually think about the potential help it could be they wouldn't think so. It would be outrageous to bring a poster board to a job interview at a big company, but this is an RA position in which we'd be using this skill often so it applies.
I thought you were specifically told to make a poster board to stand out? So someone said do something to stand out and you decided a poster board would be the best bet?
Either way good luck on getting the job, when do you find out for sure?
He said "do something to stand out, like bring an idea for a program, some sort of presentation, something like that." So I made a presentation, about myself. About the things that they wouldn't find out about me through my resume. I got high fives for my sports team choice and related to one of the women about being the youngest with two brothers. So the board made them feel closer to me personally and made the interview much more comfortable allowing me to be myself and speak openly about what I felt was important within the parameters of their questions.
I also brought them programming ideas, which was his other suggestion. Thus doing both, I went above and beyond what he asked of me.
I'll know by Monday or Tuesday, unfortunately I'll spend most of Monday in the doctors office so if they email me I won't know til the evening.
Unfortunately, you don't know me well enough. I'm actually a very humble person, despite my antics on here which I have clarified time and time again as in no way serious, I am a very conservative, quiet person.
