If you saw him snooping around your room, acting suspicious, and you think he might try to fuck you in the ass, you wouldn’t just fall asleep, you might question him, or threaten him to get the fuck out. you’d stay awake and make sure he didn’t try anything, then after he left your cell, you shank his ass and stomp on his face until he tells you what he was really doing.

Having suspicions and completely ignoring them, isn’t what we did. We questioned, we monitored, im sure we also did some things to make sure they couldn’t get anything from above, etc etc.

I think you are giving our executive administration and government in general a strong benefit of the doubt that they know exactly what they are doing & have a plan. We have been repeatedly kept in the dark on information if not outright lied to, so I personally don’t think they deserve that trust. Are we really going to do anything about this or change our foreign policy on China as a result? Doubtful.

Instead of just saying we will be competitive with China but see them as a friend & acknowledge a One-China policy, it is past time we be clear & consistent in our tone & message. They are not our friends. We don’t seek war with them but if they cross certain lines like invade Taiwan, make foreign trade agreements on oil paying with their currency, aide Russia in their conflict with Ukraine, or bring spy balloons into our airspace…we will respond harshly with grave consequences to their country (it’s ok to leave that last part ambiguous). We need to make investments in India to make them our new China trade partner 2.0. Enough of this wishy-washy ambiguity BS that we have been doing for decades.

So your argument is that a balloon with inferior capabilities to Chinese spy satellites and communications monitoring stations should have been shot down over US soil where it's self destruction capabilities may have resulted in loss of American life? Knowing full well it's complete destruction would tell us nothing about it's capabilities? This somehow a better solution to confirming via a water landing what it's capabilities and mission was without the loss of life? You're pretty dumb.

There was ample areas where you could shoot this over land where it posed no danger to anyone. Alaska has literally has a landmass to population of just over 1 person per square mile. Montana is a close 2nd with 7 people per square mile. If we are to believe the story of our current executive government's account: they claim they knew the moment it entered our air space above Alaska that it was a Chinese spy balloon. If that is actually the case, it should have been shot down immediately there with no threat to human life and well before it went over sensitive Montana installations to gather information.
