Yes I understand your perspective perfectly, while of course looking back in hindsight we can definitively say we should have shot it down earlier, but we didn’t know what it was exactly at that time. While the balloon probably has more capabilities than a satellite, we also protect our military installments and bases from overhead spying anyways.
By shooting it down later, at least we can 100% confirm and understand what equipment the balloon has with certainty, and know it’s full purpose, rather than make guesses, and give China zero room to try to deny it.
I’m not defending these actions, just trying to show that waiting did have some benefits as well.
I think one reason we waited, is so we can actually catch the Chinese red handed.
But if we break down your version.
If you saw him snooping around your room, acting suspicious, and you think he might try to fuck you in the ass, you wouldn’t just fall asleep, you might question him, or threaten him to get the fuck out. you’d stay awake and make sure he didn’t try anything, then after he left your cell, you shank his ass and stomp on his face until he tells you what he was really doing.
Having suspicions and completely ignoring them, isn’t what we did. We questioned, we monitored, im sure we also did some things to make sure they couldn’t get anything from above, etc etc.
