Four scam calls yesterday. Two from a supposed IRS agent, one from a girl with a strong Indian accent telling me my computer was full of viruses, and lastly my personal favorite, some guy in Texas who wanted me to invest 130K in oil wells.
Note: The IRS initiates contact via US Mail if you have a tax issue - check their website (www.irs.gov).
Unless you don't file your tax returns for years and otherwise fail to update your location.
-Calls from a human, I interrupt and ask them to remove my cell number from their database.
-Automated calls, I just set the cell phone down on the kitchen counter and walk away. I figure I'll use up as much of their time as possible without inconveniencing myself, and they're unlikely to call back.
-Repeat calls, I just let my provider block them.
I get about 4 calls a year at this point, but I'm also marketing adverse. I don't do polls, don't enter contests, don't sign up for store discount programs, etc.
Almost all my scam calls come through my landline. I am very careful to who I give my cell number and I get perhaps 2-3 scam calls (and roughly half a dozen scam texts) per year on it.
I've considered getting rid of my landline, but I've had it for so long that I will definitely lose contact with some folks if I do. So I pay for both lines.
People who don't respond to PM's as soon as I hit send. Why aren't you hovering over that inbox like a fat lady over a cheesecake???
