Definitely some truth in that statement, especially on gun control and/or constitutionally protected rights. Republicans need to do a better job of where they draw & hold the line vs. where they can find compromise (and by compromise I mean actually get something of value in return).

The left and Democrats have been historically better at getting exactly what they want through “negotiating a compromise” vs Republicans. Also there is frustration in the Republican Party that a lot of the politicians will talk a big game on voter issues when campaigning but easily fold on those items when they get to Washington DC.

(Example: Texas Senator John Cornyn & the Safer Communities Act)

The problem with today's republicans is they still believe things like "taking the high road" will accomplish something.

Democrats abandoned that thought process a long time ago, and republicans still can't wrap their heads around it, and then wonder why they keep taking Ls.

The policies that Democrats have negotiated as of late have had major positive impacts on economic growth and American industry, all the while supporting the resurgence of the middle class. Republicans know this, weighed the risk of opposing responsible governance and so backed off opposition. Meanwhile what have we heard in terms of major legislation from the Right? Tax cuts that benefited only the wealthiest and contributed to major gains in their deficit, that was a letter epic fail.

The resurgence of the middle class? Inflation has far outpaced wages. Middle class people buy homes. Tell me, what does that look like right now? Middle class people buy cars. Have automobiles and/or the cost of ownership become more or less expensive? I don’t see what you are talking about, nor do most Americans when polled about the economy. Middle class people cook their food with gas powered ovens & stoves…

I benefited from the tax cuts and I am not super rich. They were also weighted to give the most cuts (and deficit) up front and taper off over time. Republicans did better with the economy by not meddling with it and over spending like Democrats, but I’ll concede that not enough legislation was passed during Trump’s first term especially in the first 2 years where they had majority in Congress. Democrats under Biden administration has done “better” at volume of legislation passed and executive actions. I see those as harmful.
