First I have to say that Milo Yiannopoulos needs to be dumped by all conservatives. His statements are beyond sick and inexcusable.

But Tgo01 is right, there is a double standard at work. I submit Senator Ted Kennedy as a longstanding example (not of pedophilia, but with his personal behavior with women).

Hes not really a conservative that much, only in a few areas. He has said he doesn't support Republicans and only supported Trump in particular.

He is just anti-feminism mostly. He doesn't really talk about much else.

You mean these particular comments or all his comments in general? I would agree that these comments in particular are a bit disturbing but overall he make sense in his message and has largely been unchallenged by people on the left. They will say they don't want to give him the time of day, but I feel the truth is that they can't refute his arguments with well thought out arguments of their own.

Character assassination almost always wins over a logic argument.

Also I've looked at the clips in full and they aren't selectively edited, more context doesn't make the comments better. It is a smear campaign to be sure, but he did say these things. Hes either going to have to provide a good excuse for them or more likely lose his spot in the limelight. He has already lost his big book deal, so the campaign is working really well.

I don't think any conservatives ever really picked him up. His main thing was talking to conservative college groups about feminism and getting the liberals on campus all riled up. He wasn't a big deal with politicians.

I in no way will apologize for his statements nor do I support his sentiments. I do believe he has had to find a way to personal cope with his past and his making light of the topic is one way he deals with it. I think we also have to take into consideration several topics, those being: cultural, religious and populace beliefs. The religious topic is one that conservatives may want to tread lightly on the subject as it could very well paint the religious right with the same brushstrokes. I will first point out the cultural differences between Europe, Canada, Mexico and the United States.

Germany age of consent: 14
UK: 16
France: 15
Sweden: 15
Italy: 14
US: 18 -16 (depending on state)
Canada: 16 just recently raised from 14
Mexico: 12

These numbers should be brought in consideration as Milo is from Europe, I was personally shocked at Mexico's age of consent.

Now for what could be damaging to the Religious right, primarily the Christian Fundamentalists which seems to be the wing of conservatives that are using this as a character assassination against Milo. It should also be noted that the Fundamentalists have their own agenda of taking power over the Republican party and have been at war with us Libertarians going on for at least since 2008. Fundamentalists also lay claim to the Bible being literal in it's context and so they should be held to that standard. Here is a brief view of the Marrying age in the Bible:

The standard practice, if not being assigned to a husband at a early age, was for a female to be married after puberty to a male that had either received his family inheritance or establishing himself as a dependable resource provider. If we look at this from a biological view it follows suit. There is no questioning that a male of any species will seek out the mate that provides the best chances at bearing children and the female of any species will seek out a male that most easily provides the resources needed for survival.

Populaces standards are what we are really talking about here when we watch this story unfold. Obviously what constitutes a consenting adult varies between cultures and has changed through history. I think what makes this a big story is that we are talking about the acts between two males which brings even more to question as to where we are as a society and a topic I have no interest in discussing as I know where I stand on the subject.

As Drauz has mentioned, it is to bad that this is being used as a character assassination against someone that brings logical debate to a topic that the apposing view seems to have no answers for. It should also be a warning to the Republican party that has a wing that wants to replace the term "Conservative" with a religious test that actually means Christian Fundamentalist. It was the same wing of the party that initially supported Newt Gingrich, who doesn't exactly have the best marital past, who then went out of their way to undermine the Libertarian candidate Ron Paul as well as the Republican candidate Mitt Romney who has a solid long term marriage but just so happens to be LDS.

Though I may have Christian views, I will continue to fight against the Christian Fundamentalist branch of the Republicans which seek to take the reigns of the party.

I didn't like Milo's "brand" of conservatism, but if he were a liberal, this would be a non-story and buried.

Lena Dunham wrote in her book that she molested her sister when they were young.. but because she's a liberal, there's nothing to see here and "kids will be kids"
