We're going to Israel in March. I feel wary about being a brown person in the Middle East. I also feel wary about being an American in the Middle East, which is the opposite of my other wariness. And my brother-in-law is coming, and he's got the easygoing hipster arrogance that comes from never having a trouble in his life, so he's sure to drag us (my sister and I) to the kind of night club that gets blown up because hipster Americans go to it. Damn my father's need to see the Holy Land (which is not Mecca for us you bastards).
