EVs do have regenerative braking and shit. Basically, EVs brake pads last a loooot longer than a regular cars, because they use the motors to slow them down, kinda like down shifting, and that energy is gathered to charge the battery. You're really only using your actually brakes if you slam on them or at the very last moment when you are slowing down to a stop.

Still, even with friction, and other things, such as AC (which is required to run to cool the battery/motors), computers, radios, etc.. There are just a lot of draws for power.

Yeah I'll believe that when I see it. An upstart relying on government grants promises big things in the future, things that the already established competition can only dream of at the moment.

They haven't even tested these things in a car yet, no telling if these batteries would be cost friendly to the average consumer.

I mean, everything is trending to faster charge times. It is coming, no point in saying it isn't.

Like those people saying the internet is just a Fad back in the early 90s.

You would still experience energy "loss" (the energy really isn't lost it's just turned into energy that can't be reused in a way that will power the car). Even a battery that sits and does nothing will lose charge over time because it's sitting there creating a magnetic field.

It wouldn't really matter. It uses way more power to move a 1 ton vehicle (which would actually be even heavier once you consider passengers, cargo, and the increased weight of the batteries) than what would be generated via capturing the power created by the tires moving. Sure it could help recharge the battery so you can get more mileage out of your charge before you have to recharge, but the cost/benefit probably isn't worth it because I don't think any electric vehicles capture the power generated by the tires moving.

Some electric vehicles (might just be PHEV and hybrids) capture the power generated when the car brakes, but even then it's only generating a few miles worth, not nearly enough to power the car by itself.
