From a pure numbers standpoint? Of course there are.

According to the 2010 census, whites make up approximately 77.9% of the US population, blacks make up 13.1%. So assuming that race was not a factor in crime, then you would expect violent crimes from whites to be approximately six times as much as violent crimes from blacks.

Yet according to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, approximately one in three black men are expected to go to prison in their lifetimes. African American youth have higher rates of juvenile incarceration. 1 in every 15 African American men are currently incarcerated in comparison to 1 in every 106 white men.

Does our justice system and how it is implemented completely remove race as a factor? Of course not. We need to do whatever we can to reduce this unfairness in our system as much as possible.

But do I believe that their is a black subculture that is partially responsible for these statistics? Yes I do. Do I believe that a disproportionate percentage of black men (especially younger black men) as compared to whites, use a different set of morals than society expects from them? Yes I do. We can debate the size of this disparity, but it is there.

Is my opinion that of a very small minority? If you believe that, you need to stop playing GSIV and reading this board and go out into the real world.

A side point to a couple anonymous red reppers: Simply because I post something that you very much disagree with does not mean I am trolling. Some of you liberals out there seem to think that anyone with an opinion very different from yours simply has to be a troll. News flash: It doesn't work that way.

Notably, the only documentably systematically racist sections of our justice system are drug possession charges and whether you get the death penalty or life in prison for a capital crime. Drug possession charges are a lot of what's in our prison system, mind you.

I didn't control for anything. I spent exactly 10 minutes researching and writing the post. You have a valid point, but I still say a subculture is a factor.

As for drug possession, I go against many conservatives on this issue - we are jailing too many people for this crime. The approach is too costly in several ways. How we handle the crime needs to be rethought.

There are criminal cultures within all cultures. Wouldn't it be more accurate to say it that way? The statistics you site do not show a racial propesity towards crime. It shows systematic racism that still exists in our American culture.

The question is whether the systematic racism that exists is responsible for the entire disparity in the statistics. I don't believe so, but I can't prove my opinion.

If anyone believes you can prove that our systematic racism is responsible for all (or nearly all) of the disparity in the statistics and wants to post on the subject, I'm listening. Suggest opening up a new thread.

I have never understood how saying black people like fried chicken is racist. Who does not love fried chicken???
