Really. I personally did not find it particularly offensive. I mean, overall, its offensive for many reasons. Good on you for recognizing that it was overly offensive and saying something about it. The NYT apologized and took appropriate action.

Not that refunds are accurate for determining if a person got more or less back in a single tax year (you'd know that if you knew anything about taxes), but hey... per the IRS, 300K more people got refunds this year that last year, day to day. Oh, refund amount slipped a hair, but 300K more people. Since I actually work in the industry, I also know that the people who got more back, are low income folks. EIC taxpayers, HOH, under 90K, etc. 12/24K standard deduction helps a ton of people.

ROFL. Your own link shows total number of refunds going up .2% while the average return went down 2%! More returns all for less. That does not sound like the tax cut cash bonanza for the general American public that some people are falsely claiming. But we all know who got the biggest cuts.
