My hands shake at inopportune moments. I don't want to blind myself.
I hate wearing contacts. My face looks funny without my glasses.
This frown started yesterday.. today, it deepened so much I'm starting to get wrinkles..
We have contracts with labor unions, most of which have been renegotiated within the last 2 years. We got unions to agree to move to biweekly vacation accruals, instead of having to figure it all out on everyone's employment anniversary. Table of accrual rates goes..
No code has to be inserted here.
So.. you'd think that an employee has to be employed for a year before getting vacation time, right? WRONG!!!! The intent was to go by the clause above the table that talks about starting from the date of hire.. which the administrator (me), knowing there's a probation period, takes to mean that vacation starts accruing 1 year from the HIRE DATE, not 1 year from the end of the probation period, because the table says "Years of Completed Service: 1".. but that interpretation is wrong and not the intent. So now I have to figure out who hasn't been getting vacation that should have from people currently covered by the contract... current employees who are no longer in positions covered by the contract.. and then find employees who may have been terminated!
Right now I hate these fucking contracts.. hate the fucking unions.. and am having to remind myself that the only good thing about it besides my boss being on my side is that my job security has been solidified because I'm the only person willing to deal with these fuckers, everyone else--including my boss--starts to run away screaming whenever the unions are mentioned.
It might help to go on pandora.com. I have found song-based stations dead ends, try artist-based! And now some recommendations:
Kina Grannis, Kina Grannis, Kina Grannis - Stay cover of Rihanna good for melancholic, thoughtful times
Sigur Rós - Valtari good for same
Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Dead Flag Blues good for bleak times
April Smith - Movie Loves a Screen good for chipper times
Tom Waits - God's Away on Business which is a mediocre song for him BUT set to a video of Cookie Monster, good for a laugh
Eyes are surprisingly tough, or perhaps not surprisingly when you remember that your vitreous humor is at a higher pressure than atmospheric. You will not blind yourself, or at least not in both eyes at once, and 50/50 is fine odds for 20/20 vision.

I've been wearing glasses since I was 8. My astigmatism is so bad that contacts have been totally out of the question until recently, and they're still going to be expensive, even with my company's decent vision insurance plan. However, there is something about the glasses I got last year--maybe the anti-glare coating I got for the first time in forever--that makes them smudge magnets where the slightest brush of anything against the lens creates a smudge that has to be cleaned off. So this year, after 15 years of glasses, I will finally be looking into the contacts thing. And people won't recognize me half the time any more, because I won't have these things on my face.
