Obama gets away with it so much because republicans are scared that the media will call them names if they really try to do something about it.

Wondering... so if only a couple hundred thousand of all the millions of uninsured people sign up by the deadline, millions of people will be paying the "tax"... Is this right?
39 Dems Defect as House OKs 'Keep Your Health Plan' Bill
I thought Republicans were the ones who didn't want to work with Democrats? So Republicans get a plan passed in the House but the Senate won't take it up and the White House will veto it even though both want to pass versions similar to this bill?Quote:
Thirty-nine House Democrats joined 222 Republicans to pass the "Keep Your Health Plan Act of 2013," a bill to allow Americans to keep certain health care plans banned because of Obamacare.
The 261-to-157 vote was the largest sign of defection yet for President Obama on his signature legislative achievement.
Many of the Democrats who supported the bill, sponsored by Rep. Fred Upton, R-Mich., are in highly competitive districts and were eager to cast a vote in support of fixing the troubled Affordable Care Act.
It was the latest in a series of embarrassing blows for the White House. But it remained symbolic. The Senate won't take up the bill and the White House threatened to veto it.
Hmm.......I need Latrin to explain this one to me.
1) I think much of the house theater surrounding these votes is stupid and a waste of time. For the last few election cycles, Republicans don't seem to have a plan other than 'we're not Democrats'.
2) Be careful of talking points. Google - 40 votes obamacare repeal - and you will see a wave of like minded media outlets regurgitating the same story. With a little research you will find that some of the provisions in these 40 votes have made it into law (as in signed by Obama) most notably the changes to small business reporting requirements.
So the answer to your 'super effective' question above is that on 6 out of 40 votes the house has helped change the law in ways both parties see as an improvement.
Yeah, and yet the Republicans are the obstructionist party. Both parties are obstructionists. It just depends who is in the Whitehouse, and what is being done.
Whenever I think of congress.. I always think of that line from Leverage... "With Congressmen, 15-20k gets you a politician, and with incumbency at 95%, you got him bought for 18 or 20 years. Best investment a company can make."
