Okay.. random weird thought.. Think I've solved the unemployment and energy crisis.
Wind turbines are simply gears that are spun with wind power.
Why don't we make massive indoor bicycle areas, where the unemployed or homeless get on a bike and spin for as long as they want. All that rotational energy produced by thousands of people is then stored, and sent out.
I mean... it would work right??? Just need the gears to spin, to spin other gears, to create amperage and voila!
Totally random thought.
2 birds, one stone.
Did some research:
An average rider can produce up to 200 watts per hour.
At 25% capacity a 2 MW wind turbine produces: 2 MW × 365 days × 24 hours × 25% = 4,380 MWh = 4,380,000 kWh
So... it would take 2,737,500 people working 8 hour shifts to produce the same amount of energy as 1, 2 MW wind turbine running at 25%.
A commercial average-sized wind turbine (2 megawatts) costs about $2.6–4 million.
You could buy between 8 - 12 wind turbines for the cost of 1 days labor................
Wait, what?
I was like "no way that's true"
But it is:

I'm a gigantic fan of this. Every state should do this.

It's a lesson to the kids out there: When a politician promises to give you all sorts of free stuff if you just vote for him... chances are he will tell you anything for your vote...
