Australia, Norway, Switzerland, Sweden, Denmark...there are many places which have a higher general quality of life than the US. Most lists the US doesn't even make it into the top 10.

Exactly this.

I don't understand the thought process of people staying in a place they don't particularly like. Life is too short to be miserable. I disliked New York, Connecticut and Richmond, VA.. so I moved away.
