Agreed, not all racial epithets carry the same weight. Honkey, for instance is just laughable any time I hear it. Even Cracker, which has some greater historical significance to it doesn't really ring in my ears the way the N word does.

But, in today's news it looks like the Redskins are actually going to change their name, would you look at that. No matter what they change it to, I can't see it not being contentious whether the fans like it or not. It's going to be a shit starter.

To be fair: No one cares about the Redskins anyway. Glad they caved to the "woke" crowd.. hopefully they go broke.

Broke? They will make a fortune. New swag in all forms wil be sold. never understood why they didn't do it sooner, not for political reasons or caving if you will. But because new team name merchandise will sell insanely well for several years. Hell even being something of a pariah advertising wise they were still one of the most valuable teams in all sports not just foot ball. This will only increase that.

Agreed. No matter how much stir this name change will cause, it's going to be profitable. Everything with the old name on it can be collectible and go up in value, then there's all the new merch to be sold. I see no monetary loss here, and the more stir there is about the name change the more profits it'll drive.

They wouldn't be the first DC team to change names because their previous name was deemed to be in bad taste. I remember going to a Bullets game quite a few years back...

When your city's nickname is The Murder Capitol of the World, it makes for bad optics. Changed them to Wizards and no one cared.
