Pence only takes office if he isn't caught up in the scandal. You should be going all in on impeachment before the midterms, worst case scenario you'll get President Ryan.

If Congressional Democrats repeat their 2016 election performance in 2018 they will control the Senate. If they repeat the 2006 midterms (i.e. the last midterms under a Republican President) they will also control the House.

Also consider that the Democrats controlled the Presidency and both Houses of Congress for 14 years in the mid 20th century and the Republicans survived just fine. The only linear change in American politics is becoming more socially liberal and more centralized power, everything else goes in cycles. Capitalism/socialism, Republican/Democrat, round and round and round they go.
