:bouncy: Yay roleplay!!

Soooo, I am meeting this guy to buy this boxfound so I can sell it for crazy prices in my themed shop. Strangeness starts when I try to give him a promissory note and he says, "Paper?". Heavily edited because the bank has UBAR SCROLL.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Arinvar works his fingers under his mammoth skull warhelm and scratches his head. (((This shoulda given me a hint to what I was about to be dealing with)))
You cackle!
Arinvar offers you a snake-etched sterling silver tiara. Type ACCEPT to accept the offer or DECLINE to decline it. The offer will expire in 30 seconds.
You show Arinvar your promissory note.
>You say, "The good kind."
You flash a wide grin.
You accept Arinvar's offer and are now holding a snake-etched sterling silver tiara.
>
Arinvar has accepted your offer and is now holding a Wehnimer's promissory note.
>
Arinvar stares at the note in his hand.
>
Arinvar asks, "What Arinvar do with paper?"
>
Arinvar furrows his brow.
You burst out in loud, raucous laughter. (((Here is me saying to myself, W00T! roleplay!!)))
You say, "I can show you."
>You nod to Arinvar.
You gently take hold of Arinvar's hand.
Arinvar blinks at you.
>
You ask, "Come with me, eh?"
Arinvar grunts.
(((Insert quick hike from the gemshop to the bank)))
>You see Arinvar Dromand the Barbarian.
He appears to be a Giant of the Wsalamir Clan.
He appears to be young and very tall. He has bright crystal blue eyes and tanned skin. He has raggedly cut, unruly black hair. He has a weathered face, a broad nose and a thick mustache and beard.
He has some minor cuts and bruises on his left leg, and some minor cuts and bruises on his right arm.
He is holding a Wehnimer's promissory note in his right hand.
He is wearing a tusked mammoth skull warhelm, a fur-lined leather back-scabbard, a crudely cut mammoth fur cloak, a fur-lined chain hauberk, a bushy mammoth fur greatkilt, and some mammoth fur covered boots.
>You point at the First Elanith bank.
You say, "They value it."
>
Arinvar takes a tusked mammoth skull warhelm off his head.
You grin slowly.
[First Elanith Bank, Teller]
Most of the teller windows that line this room are missing the gates and gratings that once secured them. Impatient clients stand at one of the two intact windows, waiting to get the attention of the tellers on the other side. You also see a low arch and a large sign.
Arinvar followed.
Arinvar scratches his head.
You casually observe your surroundings.
>You shift your weight.
>
You glance at Arinvar.
>Arinvar grunts.
You say, "Give it to the lady behind the counter."
>You nod to Arinvar.
You disband your group.
Your group status is already closed.
You examine Arinvar closely, sizing him up and taking note of all the details.
>You ponder.
>
(Arinvar shows his note to the lady behind the counter.)
>
Arinvar grunts.
You cackle!
Arinvar furrows his brow.
You ponder the meaning of Arinvar's existence.
You say, "If she asks you if you'd like to deposit, say yes."
>Arinvar squints.
You gaze in amusement at Arinvar.
>
Arinvar exclaims, "She not give paper back!"
>
Arinvar roars!
>
Arinvar puts a tusked mammoth skull warhelm on his head.
>You burst out in loud, raucous laughter.
>
Arinvar removes a huge black jagged-edged claidhmore from in his leather back-scabbard.
>
Arinvar's entire body tenses as he tightens his grip on his jagged-edged claidhmore.
>
(Arinvar bangs on the counter with his fist.)
>
Arinvar exclaims, "Arinvar want paper back!"
>
>You flash a wide grin.
>
(Jihna places her hand on Arinvar's arm)
>
>Arinvar grunts.
You say, "You now have worth to this town."
You smirk at Arinvar.
>
Arinvar peers quizzically at you.
>
Arinvar asks, "Ehh..?"
You ask, "Your paper gives you a reason to stay, eh?"
You say, "When you need it again, ask her to withdraw."
>Arinvar says, "Arinvar stay..smash trolls. No need paper to smash trolls."
Arinvar shakes his head.
>
You wink and flash a sly grin.
Suddenly you have the strangest feeling that you are being watched.
The feeling fades as quickly as it came.
Arinvar squints.
Arinvar searches around for a moment.
>
Arinvar says, "Sumone watchins Arinvar."
Arinvar's entire body tenses as he tightens his grip on his jagged-edged claidhmore.
(Arinvar hops around in a circle quickly, looking for the person watching him.)
Arinvar grunts.
>
You ponder.
Your face goes blank.
You fidget.
You say, "Its a good idea to move then."
>
Arinvar says, "But.."
>
Jihna smiles slightly, the emotion not reaching her eyes
You gently take hold of Arinvar's hand.
Arinvar says, "Arinvar need shiny metals for funny hat."
>
[Town Square, West]
Here in the midst of the town stretches the cobblestoned main bazaar, its serpentine lanes abuzz with traders bartering, bickering, and hawking their wares. The freewheeling vendors in the bazaar provide a lively alternative to the somewhat stodgier merchants whose shops border the square. The gilded but peeling stone facade of the First Elanith Bank dominates this side of the square. You also see a basket of rotting fruit.
Arinvar grunts.
You ask, "Funny hat?"
You raise an eyebrow in Arinvar's direction.
You put a snake-etched sterling silver tiara in your raven-feathered warcloak.
You close your raven-feathered warcloak with a flourish, causing its hem to swirl about your ankles.
>
(Arinvar points to Jihna's tiara.)
Arinvar says, "Funny hat."
>
You stare at nothing in particular.
>
You try hard not to grin.
>
Ntstalker just entered the First Elanith bank.
>
Arinvar says, "Shiny metals so Arinvar eat."
>
Arinvar grunts.
You nod to Arinvar.
Arinvar followed.
Arinvar gazes in wonder at his surroundings.
(Jihna motions toward the teller)
Arinvar says, "Arinvar no like place..they steal paper."
You say, "Ask her for a withdraw."
Arinvar growls ferociously!
You burst out in loud, raucous laughter.
>
You say, "The paper is equal to shiny things."
You nod to Arinvar.
>
Arinvar blinks at you.
You say, "It does the same."
You flash a wide grin.
>
Arinvar asks, "Shamens like paper too?"
>
Arinvar peers quizzically at you.
Arinvar frowns.
Arinvar put a huge black jagged-edged claidhmore in his leather back-scabbard.
>
You puzzle over Arinvar.
>
Arinvar takes a tusked mammoth skull warhelm off his head.
(Jihna stares at Arinvar for a moment before busting out with loud laughter again)
You say, "You have confused me as well."
>
Arinvar frowns at you.
>
Arinvar says, "No laugh Arinvar."
>
Arinvar folds his arms over his chest.
>
You raise an eyebrow in Arinvar's direction.
Kylinarr says, "Pass the shiny metals here and I will show you a trick."
>
Kylinarr nods to Arinvar.
>
Arinvar blinks at Kylinarr.
Arinvar rummages around in his pockets.
You grin at Kylinarr.
You glance at Arinvar.
Arinvar just handed Kylinarr some coins.
Arinvar says, "K."
You ponder.
>
Kylinarr asks, "Ok ready for the trick?"
>
Kylinarr peers quizzically at Arinvar.
>
Mourdeyan buries her face in her hands.
>
Arinvar nods to Kylinarr.
Kylinarr says, "Name of the trick is watch Kylinarr's bank account grow by having folks pass em silvers."
Kylinarr exclaims, "It just grew by over 20000 silvers!"
You cackle!
(Arinvar looks confused.)
You say, "Dirty trick."
You frown.
You say, "Wish i woulda thought of it."
You fidget.
Kylinarr just handed Arinvar some coins.
Kylinarr winks.
Arinvar grunts.
Arinvar gawks at Kylinarr.
Mourdeyan chuckles.
You gaze with interest at Arinvar.
>Kylinarr says, "Be well, and cautious."
>
Kylinarr smiles at Arinvar.
Mourdeyan says, "Indeed."
Arinvar exclaims, "Man make shiny metals into MORE shiny metals!"
Kylinarr says, "Magics."
>
Kylinarr waggles his fingers mystically at Arinvar. How nice.
You cackle!
Arinvar asks, "Man use waggles on shiny metels?"
Kylinarr says, "Ya should deposit the shiny metals with the nice teller over there."
Arinvar frowns.
Arinvar exclaims, "Den Arinvar gives Shamens shiny rock!"
Arinvar grunts.
Mourdeyan says, "Because they're heavy."
Mourdeyan grins.
Lorraic says, "I was under the impression that Wsalamir giants didnt talk much."
You raise an eyebrow in Lorraic's direction.
Kylinarr grins.
You flash a wide grin.
>
Mourdeyan says, "Seem to have hit on a topic that interests him."
>
Mourdeyan shrugs.
>
You say, "Shiny things."
You nod.
You cackle!
Mourdeyan agrees with you.
Arinvar grunts.
Lorraic says, "I suppose thats the most logical explanation then."
>
Arinvar says, "Metals get Arinvar foods."
Arinvar says, "Keep strong, smash trolls."
Mourdeyan says, "And food."
>
Mourdeyan appears to be trying hard not to grin.
>
Lorraic just went through a low arch.
Kylinarr says, "Aye, but the papers will also allow you to get food."
>
Arinvar grunts.
>
You gaze in amusement at Arinvar.
>
Arinvar says, "Arinvar smash trolls, be strong 'zerker like father."
>
Arinvar nods.
You ponder the meaning of Arinvar's existence.
Arinvar peers quizzically at you.
>
Arinvar asks, "Lady want smash trolls too?"
Kylinarr says, "Strong beserkers usually require good armor to go with their strength...only way you'll get that is to save the shiny metals...only way to do that is to let the tellers hold em."
>
You flash a wide grin.
>
Arinvar says, "Arinvar take lady smash trolls."
You say, "Afraid I was about to drink myself to bed."
You wiggle your eyebrows at Arinvar.
>
Arinvar frowns.
Arinvar asks, "No want smash trolls?"
You look at Arinvar and shake your head.
>
Arinvar frowns.
>
You ask, "Afraid not. Another time, hmmm?"
Arinvar says, "Arinvar smash alones again, den."
>
Mourdeyan snuggles Kylinarr, who responds by cradling an arm around her.
>
Arinvar sighs.
Kylinarr snuggles Mourdeyan, who responds by cradling an arm around him. (((OMG, KISSYFACE IN THE BANK IS SO ROMANTIC. *twitches* Now that that is outa my system....... )))
>
Mourdeyan gazes fondly at Kylinarr.
>
You ask, "Die with honor then, eh?"
Arinvar grunts.
Arinvar grunts to you in tribute as he bangs his fist sharply upon his chain hauberk in a barbaric salute.
Kylinarr says, "We're off...good luck with the shiny metals."
>
Kylinarr waves to Arinvar.
>You smile at Arinvar.
You bow to Arinvar.
Mourdeyan says, "Well met Large friend."
>
Arinvar puts a tusked mammoth skull warhelm on his head.
>
Kylinarr's group just went through a low arch.
You wave.
Arinvar removes a huge black jagged-edged claidhmore from in his leather back-scabbard.
Arinvar looks determined and focused.
With fluid precision, Arinvar raises his jagged-edged claidhmore into a high elliptical arc overhead then changing direction, the jagged-edged claidhmore speeds cleanly downward and across his body only to disappear around his back as he adroitly swaps hands and bring the jagged-edged claidhmore flying over the opposite shoulder within a speck's distance from his ear and landing solidly in the grip of his right hand. Arinvar taps the jagged-edged claidhmore in his left hand grinning confidently.
You smirk.
>go arch
That was really nice RP on his part. Had me laughing and admiring his ability to stay in character.
Thanks for sharing
That is cute. I hope my character runs into him. It's refreshing to see someone roleplay well.
That was hysterical, it is refreshing to see someone actually in a character in GS.
He's also funny on Psinet.
I've RP'd with Arinvar quite a few times, he's a good friend of mine and Adredrin's.
He's excellent at RP and never have I seen him fall out of his character. He's played the Big Dumb Friendly Giant ever since he was created and I think he does an excellent Job.:smilegrin:
Yes, there is. I think a lot of people underestimate the importance of it as well. I had a great time last night, Arinvar was but of a small part of it all.
Also, this means I can post "OMG OMG OMG I PWN3D YOU SNIPPETS". :beer:
Maybe I'm an RP snob, but I don't particularly respect nor enjoy RP based on stereotypes and extremes (the brooding dark elf, the chipper hafling, etc.). It takes very little actual role playing "skill". Frankly, I find the big dumb giantman act tiresome, overdone, and quite inaccurate. Giantkin are probably the second or third most intelligent race in the game, going strictly by the docs.
It takes true skill to RP someone with a moderate temperament that expresses various nuances in their personality through their experiences and behavior. Thats the kind of RP I respect. Sadly, I can probably count on one hand the number people currently in the game that can do this well. Today's RP seems based on how many verbs one knows and who can come up with the longest ACT phrase.
No way I'm doing that, Jihna. I've been playing Plat for a little over a year now, and I've always played both Prime and Plat.
Lately, I've been really involved in the Plat version of the treant storyline. Been growing herbs, foraging, etc nonstop, not to mention trying to get people involved in the quest and keeping outside town. Nilandia, as she is in Plat, is a level 19 Sylvan empath, half the training of Nilandia in Prime, but she is much more closely tied to her heritage than her Prime counterpart. She stays outside town much more than Prime, she is much more apt to avoid a conflict or avoid hunting, and she is a much more outspoken advocate of the forests.
Fun times....
Arinvar is not actually dumb. He is sheltered. He has only be out of his clans small village and in the "wide world" for a short time now.
In his village silvers was not used. It was all trade for animal hides and such. Banks were not options. Common was not spoken, and life was extremely "simple".
To simply assume Arinvar is stupid just because of his broken common and lack of civilized city workings, is an unfair judgement.
One should get to know Arinvar first :)
I agree with some of this depending on what mood I'm in. However, I have my own stereotypes so I cant be too crytical and I do believe that without certain famous/infamous ones Gemstone would not be as unique a game as it is.
I can appreciate a well played idiot because I know they are necessary and all characters cannot be the same or the game would be DULL.
The cost really isn't that much. It's only $10 more than a Premium membership.
Starting over? Pah. So you have to start over. You want RP, don't you? You have a better chance of finding it in Plat.
Smaller player base? Yes, that much is true, but we have a MUCH higher proportion of people who like RP. While we have, on average, 40 people in the game in the evening, I'd wager that 75% of those people are ready and waiting for some RP. Not to mention that, while we have the same amount of real estate that Prime has, we have a portal system that lets us get to different towns instantly, plus a worldwide amunet. Just imagine it as a worldwide community, extremely tight-knit and much more RP-based.
There are tons of character concepts that I would try in Plat that I would never try in Prime, given that the people in Plat are much more willing to go along with the RP.
There really aren't any RP cliques, either. If you're there, you're in the middle of it. As long as you show up, you can get involved.
I've heard from people that there isn't any room for evil characters. That is absolutely not true. We have a thriving Dhe'nar population, and it's much more likely a Dhe'nar you run into is fully aware of their history and RPs such than to meet one who has no clue.
We also have people who are just not nice. Just a few days ago, a treant appeared and drew people outside town. One of our EM characters, Malgaftan, had been attacked by a treant and wanted revenge, so he cast meteor swarm. He took half of Plat with him and crashed the whole game.
There are characters who have sided with the Krolvin when they took over the Landing, people who have worked with evil NPCs in storylines, active Luukosians, an Ur-Daemon follower and all sorts of nasty people.
Basically, if you can stay consistent, we'll work you in somehow.
Hey, playing an idiot isn't as easy as it may seem. My character, Snapp, is RP'd dumber than a brick, and it's not easy. People pick on him constantly, but he's "too dumb" to realize it.. just think how hard it was for that guy to hand over 20k to someone because the person asked for it and not bash his brains in.
Just be happy he's RPing at all.
Please explain your opinion to me, CT. Many times, what I say and what other people see are very different, so I don't know what you saw.
What I meant to say is that so long as you're consistent with your character, you'll find a warm welcome here. Well, not necessarily warm, since we do have our Evil Meaniehead (EM) characters, but you will be welcomed.
