Wondering if anyone is playing Half-Krolvin and how its going.

Was reading over the info at play.net and it looks like krovlin might view most of the other races as nothing more than possible slaves. The info on the site is pretty gruesome about how the krol bred the half-krol as an army from captured human, giant and elven slaves.

If no one is playing one here, how do the rest of you view and or treat the half-krol in the game?

Being a half-sylvan myself, I don't have a whole lot of room to be racist or mean to any race in particular. I treat half-krol just like I do everyone else. The only race I treat differently is Humans, and they have to pay 10% more at my shop, which isn't a real big deal.

They do have a gruesome history. During HSN, I attended a cultural discussion led by half-krolvin. They seem to feel that they are stronger, both mentally and physically, than the other races, and are very proud of their heritage. That said, I don't really know any half-krolvin in game very well. My characters pretty much are accepting of all other races, reserving judgement for each individual's behaviour, rather than lumping all people of a race into a category defined by a few. I know lots of folks disagree with my philosophy, but oh well.

Its a certain truth that the Krol view the other races as being lesser and as material for enslavement. In the Krolgeh language, they have a word "grarrog" which explicitly exists to refer to all races other than krolvin. However, there is also a different word "p'tuu" for a slave itself. So in a sense, you're not a slave by not being Krol, but you're certainly only a raid or pillage away from being such.

If you read the prior posts in the Half-Krolvin topic, you'll find a lot of information and answers to the questions you asked here.

That said, I'll do a quick response.

There are essentially two different types of Half-Krol that can be roleplayed in Elanthia:

1)The Krint Half-Krol

The descendants of the half-krol army that Krintaur set out to create on his self-titled island, these are the originators of the klin'asts (and technically, the only ones who should choose these cultures unless informed of them by a Krint HK), and the true "Race" of half-krol. They have spread out from the island and are the HKs mainly referred to in the documentation.

2)The Others

The others can be a fairly large group and consist of the classic "rape" scenario of Krol raiders upon the populace or the "love conquers all" where a relationship involving a krol or HK with another race produces the said HK as a child. It can be argued there can even be "Other" settlements, but I would say they would be as rare as say a settlement of purely half-sylvans or half-elves. Notably, however, is that these HKs were NOT raised in a Krint culture like the above.

Originally, Half-Krol were met with a great amount of negative reaction for the most part, by those simply addressing them as more Krol than anything else. River's Rest was quite brutal upon the time of the HK release (GSIV launch), but such reactions were also found elsewhere in the game as well, perhaps the difference being how much roleplay was actually utilized in these conflicts.

For the most part, the HKs are mostly just starting to fit in with most everyone else, and probably are one of the fewest played races in the game so far. There is a HK only PRO that exists in Solhaven called "Dush gno Krol" which tries to meet every Tuesday night at 9:30 EST. Recent problems have reduced their activity, if not numbers but it still exists, never the less.

Depending on your HK, you can decide how to view the world, this too breaks down into different categories:

a)The Krol Way - HK associates with the Krol ancestry or parentage, and believes everyone else is lesser. (More likely with Other HKs)

b)Proud HK Way - HK believes that the HK Race is the superior mix of races, and thus, better than everyone else, including the Krolvin. (More likely from Krint HKs)

c)Egalitarian HK - Due to strife of their background, they think all races are equal. (More likely from an Other HK)

Lastly, for more information on the Krolvin and their society I'd suggest reading over Krolgeh language document and you can visit my site ( http://www.cox-internet.com/templar/Elanthia/krolhist.htm ) where I put together a history of the Krol from the available documentation and then a treatise on their society, which might be applicable depending on how you want to RP your HK.

Cool. Thanks for the info. I’m and old RR player from a ways back. Nobody special, just a crazy bard. Funny an RR person would respond. :)

Now, anyone wanna roll up an HK to RP with me in Icemule? We need to get a posse going and have some fun.

I have a HK cleric that lives in Icemule. She's still pretty young. There are only two others I know of Tharguhtan and Veras. Whenever we are together it's not hard to miss us. We only speak in HK and keep to ourselves.

Sean currently plays the half-krol Waedon or however you spell it. He was bragging that he's the oldest half-krol or some such crap last night on psinet. I laughed.

No matter what he thinks, he isn't.

I can see HKs maybe being somehow tolerant of half-elves... if as RiverRat suggests, the HKs see superiority in mixed races. Or perhaps some bonding through being outside the norm of cultures.

I rolled a half-krolvin bard with the idea that she'd sing all her stuff in krolvin.. but I got sick of this one fucker who kept messing with me in the catcacombs because she was half-krolvin, plus all the other people who treat you like shit.. sorry I dont pay for a game to be treated like shit.. RP or no.

I rolled up a female half-krol with the intent to play it crazy/evil but the idea went moot after a while. It just didnt click with me, probably because I have another character too similar.

I've heard of some of the troubles involving HKs in the Landing. It seems for some that the line, " ....appears to be Half-Krol" = = [Feel free to CvC without any RP].

For those who want to start up young HKs in the Landing or Solhaven and are having trouble with folks attacking them or what not, hunt down Fourth in Sol. He's not the oldest HK, but he is level 25, so somewhat capable of keeping younger HKs safe from snerts.

I can state confidently that he's been on the receiving end of such brutality, so I know exactly how it feels. Thus, if he hears about HKs being persecuted, he gets rather riled up over the issue. A blue crystal and a feras weapon go a long way to settling things (Fourth's way, anyhoots).

Lately, I've been busy at other tasks, but I do plan to increase IVth's presence around Solhaven in the near future. For a short time, we had cornered the market, so to speak, in that that North Market South was a gathering spot for HKs (up to 5 at one point). There is a HK in Solhaven now, and his name escapes me.

And as a shameless plug, you're always welcome to come down south to Solhaven for Dush gno Krol meetings.

Lastly, always glad to help out a fellow Rester.

I play a HK Bard in IceMule, however between three other characters, this one often gets abandoned.

Arkans hates Half-Krolvin, but is forced to tolerate Half-Elves. He does view as the Half-Krolvin as even more barbaric than Giantkin and past any sort of redemption.

Falgrin treats all HKs the same.. he makes fun of them. Blue hairs are easy to kill and have not posed any threat to him since the liberation of Teras Isle.

Rail -

I just wanted to say that I really enjoyed the way you RP'd Fourth around River's Rest. Dealing with him really unlocked a side of Alahnna's personality that I never knew existed. The whole racism thing was never a thing for her, really, then suddenly she has a Krolvin in her face when she just spent a summer defending the town against exactly that. She really had a conflict with her own morals and her devotion to the ways of her Goddess versus her pure, seething hatred of the Krolvin for everything they did to her town, her friends, and her way of life.

I just want to say 'Thank you' for the best-played HK I've met.

Half-krol are furry fucktards. They need more combs and manicures. That said, my character isn't racist. However, his familiar hates Delf sorcies

IVth's time in the Rest was a whole new chapter for his player as well. In all honesty, he was the first character I've ever played beyond Railien, and for the matter, the first who was prepared to use violence so excessively (excessively compared to Rail).

Indeed, it allowed me to view all the folks that I was missing interacting with (the staff thing, lets not go into it) from a different perspective and allowed me to appreciate that many characters who call the Rest home are more than one dimensional avatars of their players. The Rest was certainly a tempering ground for IVth and holds a special place in his heart, though, I won't clarify how. ...and I'm rambling, sorry folks!

I don't think IVth is the best RP'd HK ever, if only for the fact that he bucks the general trend laid out in the documentation, but I'm certainly very glad that he was able to provide such an experience for ya.

As for a more thread specific rambling, my main character treats HKs with respect for the belief that they were responsible for ending Sankir's occupation of the Rest. This view is also controversial within the town, but having met Airn and Colgan, he realizes that HK != Krolvin. Thats good enough for him.

I was out of town otherwise I would have been all over this topic. My main character, Chiv, HATES HATES HATES half-krolvins. His father and his father's village were killed by krolvin raiders (I usually have him say HK's invaded too, but I'm not 100% sure on that yet). To him HK's are krolvins all the way, and all krolvins are murderers and rapists and deserve death. If he sees an HK he will be a total ass to them and tell them in no uncertain terms to move or die. Usually this will lead to some repartee, although often it just degenerates into name-calling. In the end though, I have no problem killing even a drake-wielding half-krolvin when I'm playing Chiv. I normally escalate three ways, first symbol of sleep then drag out of the room. Then, unbalance and drag and if they continue coming back, I have him kill them. As a player this can be rather annoying at times because I try to be VERY consistent with this, Chiv just can't tolerate a krolvin of any sort in the same area as him. But it often leads to people not healing him or that kind of thing, which is somewhat annoying since it's my main character, but I tough it out.

I've also experianced several hilarious incidents where I've whispered something like "OOC: No hard feelings, this is strictly roleplay" and I'll get some really funny whispers back about how I'm (the player) a racist. Yes, I go around all the time during my day just thinking of ways to hold down a textual fictional race in real life.

On the other side of things I play a half-krolvin wizard who is near 30 levels, he's very nationalistic, he considers HK's and krolvins superior people and everyone else is just so much chaff. He only speaks krolgeh, I've never had him say a word in common. All HK's are "brothers" and usually when I have him in the town centre (both him and Chiv are based in Icemule) I just have him saying things about how he will soon destroy everyone here, or they are unworthy of his presence, that kind of thing, but no one but HK's can understand it of course. I don't know who the oldest half krolvin is in the game but I consider my wizard the most likely to be able to assinate another PC, between a blue crystal, sign of madness and rapid fire 910 he can take out someone relatively old. He's more than willing to fight for any half krolvin but I usually don't do much CvC with him because it's hard to get into a conflict when people don't understand what he's saying.

It's kind of hard to run into my wizard because he's invisible most of the time, but if anyone wants to do something in-game feel free to send me a U2U. I'm pretty interested in fleshing my HK out a bit more.

Half-Krolvins should only be able to select warrior as a profession because they are brutes and like to smack shit up. :spin:

The strongbad song I do not get Stanley. As far as only being warriors... you are probably right, but I like playing one as a wizard anyway.

Should elves only be rangers? Should all dwarfs be miners? Should all halflings only eat tarts? Should all dark elves only be sorcerers?

I think HK are a bit on the brutish side but that doesn't mean they can't be played in another profession....or even be..(gasp) happy.

My HK has come to terms with her heritage a few years back. This is how she found Lorminstra. Rebirth. She does have a hot temper but she channels her aggression towards the undead. She prefers the company of HK but does not discriminate against other races. She does feel she is physically superior but she won't brag. ;)

edited to add a bit more about my character.
