Did I pure too early?

Logged into my bard after a couple years off.

He is level 39, 1x bard, 27 ranks MinE, 60 armor ranks. 1x manipulation, 1x shield, 2x brawling.

I remember shelving him for being unsatisfied in some manner but I can't remember why. I've only multi hunted with him so I have no idea how successful he'll be.

Should I anticipate frying on him each hunt, or am I going to be constantly mana starved?

I have a fixskill available and wondering if I should just say screw it and go pole build and hold all these armor ranks and relearn to play with the training wheels.

I know I turned pure around that level because I was hunting Shan. Generally you're still going to be playing a two handed instrument until 45 ranks of Manipulation (at which point you'll be using a one handed until 75 ranks). Early on, mana is rough and you have to be picky about what you hunt. You're going to want to go after things that have weapons so that you can use 1002 on them, and also need them to die to crits so that your mana pool holds up. Start hunting down blue and crystal wands(as well as wizards to fully charge them). You can use Song of Unravelling on them for the mana you need to finish filling up your head.


You may have shelved him because you had to master a two-handed, then a one-handed instrument. You may have also had poor success hunting with just an instrument in your left hand.

For the above reasons I'd say you did it too early. At level 40 you shouldn't have to be too picky about what you hunt any more. So, I'd vote going back to polearms for another 20 or so levels. I've got a bard that I figured 40 was worth a shot at trying pure and it is annoying. There is a big difference between being able to do something and doing it well.

I did it through shan, (they carry shields AND weapons that can be vibe-shattered with 1002), then to RR, then to bog at Ta'vallor, then Illy. Great times. I did go with asg 15 armor, and had ability to wrack. Also, was using two handed instrument the whole time, no shield or brawling because he's also my picker. I now have all the manipulation lore necessary and am training shield and brawling, but not even close to singled. Still an easy hunt through minos etc.

Was a polearmer before pure, like many others.

Hunting suggestions for level 39 pole user? I've got 430, 1020, 60 armor. 10 ranks each swimming and climbing. Recommendations on what I should take on?

Illistim was good at that level. Bounties for kiramon, tegu, vor'taz(can grow into vor'taz at base 48), and faeroths.
