So browsing through the posts it seems clerics are a great and self sufficient F2P class.

I haven't seen a lot of talk about rangers. I'm considering an ambush ohe/shield ranger, because of low level archery pains.

I'm going to go halfling for maneuver bonus, and I won't worry about encumberance as much due to reduced loot.

So, has anyone tried F2P ranger, or is cleric the way to go?

Any class is fine for f2p.

Can you hunt and level? Yes.

Bards kinda just have a tough time at lower levels in general... While many of their spellsongs are restricted, those that are restricted are situational, and you likely wouldn't have the mana to use them often until much later in your barding career.

Honestly, any class is fine. It's most important that you play a class that you can have fun with and RP/relate to...

Just finished bringing a ranger to 25 as F2P. Worked just fine. Went ranged at around 10 trains with a 4x bow. Didn't even bother to eblade my arrows until around 16 trains. Not sure what the "low-level archery" problems are, but they didn't slow me down. I died once in my rise to level 25.

Sniper ranger, works great a F2P. I will have to check all the spells to be certain, but the only spells that are blocked were 611 (can't do massies for the masses), 614 (no imbue bots), 619 (area effect not allowed!) and 620 (because it makes money). For the rest of the spells up to 625, they all worked as expected.

My guess, if you ever manage to take a F2P to a higher level, 635 will probably be blocked, but I don't see any reason 630, 640 or 650 would be blocked (though there might be some reason to block the animal companion, not sure what that reason would be except for Simu logic).

-- Just bear in mind that Rangers are the masters of Foraging and Skinning - two things that are crippled as F2P. I think the restrictions on foraging is 5 items per hour, and skinning gets capped if you've earned your money cap for the day (it will start saying you can't skin things below your level). Oh, and you can't skin stuff that you can't learn from.

Can you put your balls in a vise and pull the lever? That's an empath.

I'm playing a warrior and it's not too bad. People say you'll be gimped without the guild, but I hate guildwork on my non-f2p warrior/rogue so it's not a big loss.

I'm surprised there isn't a pass available to purchase guild access for 30 days similar to societies. It would just be extra cash for them.

I would suggest a Paladin. All their stuff works.

They mentioned it was something they planned to add in the early launch of F2P, but it has also been discussed with the GMs on the officials as a fairly large handicap (mainly because of the CM point savings you get from guild skills like Warriors not having to spend 30 CMAN points on Feint... or BERSERK!!! and same for Rogues with sweep and some of their shadow mastery stuff).

The GMs justified the decision to not open the guild to F2P because "most people in these professions don't have a substantial number of guild skills to support it for balance". Other players commented that it would give them the ability to make F2P partners for guild reps, which might be an abuse of the F2P accounts.

I personally disagree because making a "rep bot" would be a nightmare! You'd have to level the F2P account sufficiently just to gain access to mastery of a guild skill, then master the guild skill alongside your primary character. Ugh, that sounds tedious to the extreme...
