I didn't follow this case very much at all and have no opinion on the guilt or innocence of Scott Peterson. I was concerned when the Judge started dismissing jurors, when the jury was deadlocked, especially the physician who took a copious amount of notes.
I am guessing that Scott’s lawyers will be filing an appeal.

The only injustice is that Geragos won't share in the sentence. Well, that, and that he's not in Texas, where Scott would actually stand a decent chance of dying in the next decade.
I'm not quite sure how you can logically assume he didn't premeditate the baby's murder as well, but I can live with that verdict.
What a scumbag. Kills his wife and baby, and he bankrupts his parents to try to get his guilty ass off. How much fun was that for his mom, listening to his cell phone calls where he's lying his ass off to her? I feel terribly sorry for his poor deluded parents.
Laci would have been 28 today. Nice cosmic justice.
Kudos to the jury for doing the right thing.

I'm going to have to say, that while I believe he is guilty, there was not enough evidence to prove <without a reasonable doubt> that he was indeed guilty. You can't base judgments of guilt on individuals based upon their disposition alone. Thumbs down to the Prosecution and Police department for not building a better case against a man that was clearly guilty.

I'm surprised a state like California has capital punishment actually. I do hope he gets raped in prison by a guy named "Bubba" a couple times before he dies though.
I'm 99% sure that Peterson did kill her, but this verdict is a sham. The prosecution didn't present any evidence other than he was a real scum bag and he acted shady.
Scumbag & shady != murder.
He was convicted on emotion and not the facts.

The jury clearly disagreed with your assumption.

Excellent point ParkBandit...?
<PB: The jury clearly disagreed with your assumption. >
The jury aquitted OJ to make a social statement, they found Peterson guilty to make a moral statement. It's my belief that neither of these cases were decided on the facts. I imagine that if this had not been a highly publicized case he would have been found innocent, or the jury would have been hung.

Since you and I were not on the Jury and you and I were not in the courtroom and you and I were not listening to testimony.. one of us is assuming.
And that's not me.
We've been relayed all the information that was presented in trial PB, now we didn't hear it, but we heard the summaries of it. Do you really think Peterson was convicted on evidence or on the fact that he's an ass who cheated on his wife? If the evidence, what evidence do you think did it?

Actually.. I'm not well versed on the court evidence in this trial.. only what I hear on news reports. My opinion is that the Jury did their duty and my personal opinion is that he did it. There were far too many coincidences for him not to have done it.
My point though is you are reading the stuff from the trial.. you can't determine whether or not that witness or expert is being completely honest. You need body language, tone of voice, etc.. to help you determine if you find that individual believable or not. The jury was exposed to ALL the facts.. we were not.
Well, I never said I think he didn't do it. In fact I think he did kill her. I just don't think the evidence supported a conviction beyond a reasonable doubt. Especially since the judge dismissed a juror who thought he was innocent.
I agree with Drew's logic but I'm still glad they found the bum guilty.

Yea. Too bad the Judge was a numbnuts and dismissed that second juror for a panty-waste reason. If Scott's lawyer is worth 1/88th the money he was paid, he will probably win the appeal with just that reason, and win Then Scotty goes free, and the wife and baby stay dead. All because of one numbnuts judge.
Don't you just love idiots?

If he's put into general population instead of on death row, will he really live long enough for his appeal?

I know in cases involving the death penalty an appeal is automatic. Not sure if that's the case for life imprisonment or all 1st degree murder cases though.

Overheard somewhere on a golf course in Florida this afternoon: "Thank God for Johnny Cochran!"
I took a late lunch today so I could listen to the verdict live. Well worth it.
He'll probably make a sympathy plea and get life.

He will appeal, and it will be stuck in the courts for years anyhow.
Hopefully the guys in general population will make a nice home away from home for Peterson.

People are entitled to their opinions, but I don’t agree that there wasn’t any evidence, or that Peterson was convicted on emotion. There was evidence that even the defense couldn’t explain, or discredit.
My sister was a juror on this case, and the verdict and sentence was not reached easily, or with joy. This was a life-changing experience that I’m not sure she will ever recover from. I’m proud of her for having the strength and courage to get through this, and for the compassion and sorrow the jurors had for both families.

Summerlyn, was she the one with the red/pink hair?

I don't think he should get the death penalty, simply because lethal injections are painless.
If you're going to give the death penalty to someone for brutally murdering someone, especially your wife and unborn child, they should die in as much fear and pain as the person they killed.

Summer, tell your sister that there are many people who are grateful for her service and her determination to get it right.
I can't imagine giving up so much time and effort for dealing with the heartbreak of this trial, not to mention the memories she'd probably rather not have.
I was really impressed with the way the jury conducted themselves after the verdict. They weren't all over the place last night. They made a dignified statement, they had a press conference with their representatives, and they went home. Exactly the way it should happen, and so rarely does.

<Summerlyn, was she the one with the red/pink hair?>
The media had nicknames for all the jurors, the woman with the red hair was named Strawberry Shortcake. My sister's nickname was Goldilocks.
<I was really impressed with the way the jury conducted themselves after the verdict.>
Thank you for your kind words, Ylena, I will be sure to pass them on to my sister. I too was impressed with how level-headed and compassionate the jurors appeared. My sister is so drained right now, she doesn't want any attention, or anything to do with the media. I never realized what jurors go through in a high-profile case. I hope after some time, and lots of rest, she can move on...

I, for one, am a huge supporter of the death penalty, and I'm glad it was handed down in this case. I know he'll probably be on death row for ages and ages and yada. But I feel that the jury made a statement, and a strong one at that.
When people choose to take the life of another human in a manner like that, they forfeit their humanity. Killing them is, IMO, no different than squishing a bug on your sidewalk.
The reason the death penalty costs so freaking much to execute (pun, haha) is because we allow like five million appeals. I think they should get one appeal. One. If that one fails, they take you out back THAT DAY and shoot you.
Yes, I know this idea is flawed, but I like it.
