This is happening now. Details just trickling in from a few sources.
At least one man opened fire with an automatic gun at the Petit Cambodge restaurant in the 11th district.Liberation newspaper reports four deaths. It also reports shootings near the Bataclan arts centre.
Three explosions are also reported outside a bar near the Stade de France, where France were hosting Germany.
Reports say French President Francois Hollande was watching the match and has been moved to safety.
A BBC journalist at the Petit Cambodge restaurant says he can see 10 people on the road either dead or seriously injured.
He says police have now arrived and sealed off the area.
An eyewitness told Liberation he had heard more than 100 rounds being fired.
It says the gunman has fled the scene.
CNN is reporting approx. 60 hostages at the Paris Bataclan concert venue.

They're saying about 100 dead just at the concert hall :(

I got home not too long ago so I had no idea this was going on.

Yeah, they were reporting 60 dead, but that was BEFORE they saw what was inside the concert hall just a bit ago (estimates of 100 dead just there). Total death toll 150+. Absolutely horrendous.

Looks like the attacks on ISIS (if confirmed behind the attack) are going to amp up.

Some witnesses say they shouted "Allahu Akbar" and "This is for Syria". American intelligence official (I forget who it was) thought it seemed more like Al Qaeda than ISIS. But no doubt Islamic terrorists it seems.

Good lord. I went to sleep for a bit shortly after this all began. It's hard to believe this incident won't change how France operates as a country in terms of immigration, societal rights, military intervention, etc. I imagine you'll see an even faster rise in Nationalist parties across several European countries, obviously including France.

Woke up and read someone post on a running forum that they were thinking of people of Paris. I go to the BBC news and hear about a coordinate attack on Paris. For fucks sake! Getting so sick of this shit! 8 known attackers, 7 of whom blew themselves up.
Fallen, that's a good analysis. This event will have an impact on all European countries, espeically those that have anything to do with Iraq, Afghanistan or Syria. I expect a little more jingoism, xenophobia and pseudo-right wing crap to be prominent in the coming months.
Ive lived to see people travel in space, compete in friendship at three Olympics, the end of apartheid, the Berlin Wall come down...so many wonderful things. And yet still, people find ways to be so distructive!
Just a little angry at the moment.
I'm not particularly religious but I am going on a three mile run in two hours and as I look at the beauty around me, I will dedicate each step to everyone affected, directly or indirectly, by this event.

There was a massive ramp-up of intelligence and security following the earlier attacks in the year, too.

We need to deploy life saving nuclear weapons against these sand nigs. It worked against the zipper heads. Just glass the entire middle east over and be done with it.

I'm all for nuking the shit out of the Middle East but they got some pretty important stuff we can't exactly risk. That and other countries really hate it when you drop radioactive weapons on folks.

Yeah it has. Back in WWII we basically used it as a last resort. Going so far as to warn the Japanese prior to using the weapon. It took two to make them stop. ISIS is a different beast, though. They don't really operate out of simply one place. They also likely have some sort of contingency plan to launch attacks on or of a greater scale, should anything happen to their hierarchy.
You could turn the entirety of the Middle East into a smoking, radioactive desert and ISIS will still have the capacity to launch attacks on foreign soil.

We dropped the bombs, therefore, it didn't stop us. Pretty simple, really.

A better solution is to probably stop arming rebels that then turn into terrorist organisations, we've created some of the worst terror organizations the world has ever seen.

It doesn't matter. Even if you take out Isis entirely a new group would eventually spring up. Unfortunately this is the way of things now and in the future. I believe that for the rest of my existence we will be dealing with Islamic extremists/terrorists.
No army, no bombs, no war is going to change their mentality or ideology. It's a fucking nightmare.

Ugh. Well put, but I think we may be underestimating the positive impact a few thousand nuclear weapons could have on the region.

Who lets these people tweet? Apparently Twitter is a terrorist organization. Who knew. And this lady, what an idiot. They don't need a twitter account. They can just tell her and she'll pass the word along. Also, stay indoors? Whatever, I'm not living in fear. That's what they want. That said, I don't live in any of those homosexual ridden cities, so take that with a grain of salt.

I agree that we caused this mess. It's one of the chiefest reasons that we suck. But everyone keep paying your taxes to support it or we'll jail you!

I'm curious.. France said this attack was a direct act of war. Doesn't that mean NATO needs to step in?

Only if France invokes article 5 of the Washington Treaty, and based on the precedent set by the United States after the 2001 attack, it will be accepted by the other members of NATO.

President Hollande is meeting with Parliament on Monday. I wonder if this will be discussed. If an article 4 meeting doesn't take place I'll be highly surprised.
