If one wanted to be a magical rogue but maintain standard fighting and lockpick/disarm skills, could you simply do 1x Arcane Symbols and use scrolls up until a much later level where you had enough TP's to then fixskill over to using actual spell ranks and harness power?

If you're talking about using spells to attack with, I don't think it's worthwhile either way. With 35 MnE and 20 MnS, I don't think I had a positive warding margin against bandits, much less against anything remotely magical. The only spells that were useful were as an attack were 410, 417, 435, and 119. Though 118, 409, and 415 were useful for things level 60ish and down for escorts and the like (ghost wolves come to mind). To be viable like-level, you'd probably need to 1x SR and fully enhance the appropriate stat. Maybe maneuver spells like implosion are viable, though. But at this point, I'd suggest using imbedded ranger rods and a wand glove over scrolls.

If you're talking about buffs, yes of course.

Yep, buffs only. Sorry, I should have clarified that. I like to be as self sufficient as possible.

My warrior did this perfectly well for buffs at 0.5x AS. I stopped at 35 ranks. Only thing to remember is that encumbrance affects the INVOKE roll.
