Ok, so apparently readers of NW Karaoke and Entertainment guide are assholes and don't bother to respond to a question. SO I need help... I need (brief) answers to this question:

Do you sing for yourself at karaoke, or do you sing to please the crowd?

Any answer is good as long as it makes sense (and is one - four sentences), and I will print most of them.
If you could help me out, I would reaaaaalllllly appreciate it (love you long time?) You can either post your answers here (with whatever name you want in print), or you can email the answer to karaokenw@gmail.com

Thank you if you help out :)

Are you kidding?! The more fun you have singing it, the more the crowd is going to love it. Sing for yourself!~kevin

This sounds like a Psychology 101 survey question.

I sing for myself. The crowd is there, and I might have picked the song to please them - but I wouldn't have picked it in the first place if I didn't feel comfortable singing it. I've sung in both good friend/coworker (read: bosses) kareoke, and I'd pick me. ~samuel gompers

If I'm going to sing Karaoke, the song needs to be something I love and something that suits the crowd. Nothing kills my mood to sing another song like a bored crowd. From my experience, the best way to make it interesting is to either sing the song well enough to do it justice or badly and enthusiastically enough to infuse it with life [I'm looking at you "Kiss from a Rose"].

I try to sing exciting songs that I know people will like and are also fun to sing. So......both!

I originally read it as karakore... or whatever that +15 wood is that you can fletch with.

As far as Karaoke...
It really depends on your skill level as a singer and objectives for the evening.
If you're not a great singer, then singing a crowd pleasing song, or something incredibly off the wall is a great way to break tension within the room, let people lighten up, and convey to the room that you're not afraid of making an ass of yourself.
If you're a better singer, it'll depend more on your objectives! If your goal is to be outgoing, meet new people, have an icebreaker with the cutie at the bar, then a crowd pleaser is a great way to get someone's attention. If you're feeling a bit more introverted, a great rendition of a song that's personal to you can be a great way to vent out some built up emotions. There's no one answer, it's incredibly dependent on how you're feeling!

People tell me I'm a great singer, but I don't really believe them, so I only do karaoke when I'm drunk and a friend/coworker talks me in to it.

edit: With that being said, I always pick a song I like to sing. Fuck everyone else, I didn't want to be up there singing in the first place.
