Hello Everyone,

I am a returning player from way back (early 90's). Unfortunately, my account is not recoverable. :( Although, I made it past Legend (I think) I remember almost nothing of that period (including OOG aspects of my life too) so I'm thinking about starting over!

#1 First, my main question (not really pertaining to Sorcerers). How is the game doing? How's the population like? How's the company doing? And what's your take on the direction/longevity of the game. I know most of these are tough questions but would like to know before I invest anything into the game.

#2 Second, I'm thinking about leveling my way up to 20 before I sub-up and really start the game. There are 2 reasons for this. Number one, is to just get to know the state of the game and get myself back to working order (in terms of areas/maps etc.) and number 2 I don't see a reason to invest money (pay 40 bucks) when I can reasonably level to 20 (or so I've heard). I heard anything beyond 20 is extremely painful, and subbing up is good at that point.

#3 Main goal is to get back to level 50 (where I last started from).

So, with that being all said. What is the fastest route for me to take for leveling purposes as a sorcerer...

Levels 0-5

Levels 6-10

Levels 11-15

Levels 16-20

Thanks guys for any tips.

1. The current status of the game, IMO, is awesome. The current crop of GMs have been on a complete roll the last few years in regards to updates, RP, events, ect. So much has changed since you last played.

I'm playing through on a sorcerer right now (15) and here is where I've hunted.

1-2: rats
2-3: kobolds, rabid squirrels, roltons
3-6: Icemule cemetary
7-10: hobgoblins, cockatrice, Thurfel's island (crystal crabs, crocodiles, monkeys)
11-14: snow spectres, wall guardians, deranged sentries, silverback orcs
15-20: wraiths, Thurfel's cellar (crazy swarming action,) nedum vereri, arctic pumas

How is the game doing?

About as well as one might expect from a decades old text based game I suppose.

How's the population like?

Like 300 or 400 is a typical night during prime time. It drops to below 100 during off hours.

How's the company doing?

Making so much money from GS that they invest the money on failed mobile apps.

And what's your take on the direction/longevity of the game.

Right now there is some bad juju going on in regards to nerfing wizards to hell and back but other than that the direction is a pretty good one overall. The game will be around for another decade at least probably.

The experience penalty kicks in at like level 10 I think, plus you don't get Lumnis (which is like 3x experience gain for 3 hours followed by 2x experience gain for 3 hours once a week.) Trust me, you'll level to 20 much slower than just subbing but it's not completely unbearable, especially since F2P is, well, free to play. Personally I only made it to like level 6 on an alt of mine before I just bit the bullet and subbed.

Being a sorc is great. There was a Sorc review earlier this summer and basically it turned Sorcerers into awesome, pestilence breathing beasts.

All spell casters get a free, 0 mana spell, so hunting as a pure isn't as difficult.

I'm biased but I've always been a fan of Icemule. I have leveled like 5 characters to cap (including a sorc!) hunting just Icemule/surrounding areas (except for like the 20 level gap between Pinefar/Rift), and 4 other characters that are below level 50.

Make sure you download lich and use ;narost, much easier to find your way around now.

The importance of this single bit of advice cannot be over stated.

Though it is not very "sorcerer" like, it is still pretty efficient to make your stats and skills resemble that of a warrior and hunt with a claidhmore for your first 30 days. You get instant skill migration and fixstats for 30 days, at which point you'll revert to your permanent sorcerer build. 1700 is meant to make this less of an obvious choice, but it is still an option every new character starting out should consider.

That being said, 1 - 2 can be done by completing the sprite quest, listening to Thrak and answering his questions, and hunting rats for the last bit of EXP.

2 - 5ish can be done hunting rats in the Landing or elsewhere.

Other low level options are Kobolds, Thyrils, Ants, etc.

If you can make it beyond level 10 before your first 30 days are up without XXX, you're putting in a good deal of time hunting and I salute you.

General F2P tips:

1. Get yourself a second (maybe also a thrd) F2P character to use as a Bank and Locker. If you start out F2P, which is completely doable, you will have a 100k cap in the bank, and also have no locker. Making a "mule" for that issue helps.

2. Don't expect to do bounties. Bounty hunting for F2P is stupid a lot of the time. Foraging tasks are impossible because of the foraging restrictions. Finding gem bounties are next to impossible due to gems being reduced dramatically because of F2P loot limitations (only so much coin in treasure available per day). Skinning bounties are also hard to accomplish because if you have hit your treasure cap, you will be unable to skin for the remainder of the day. Additionally, bounty cooldowns are longer for F2P, so you can't just abandon and move on. You'll have to hire players to complete the bounties for you, which is why 1-20 it is not worth the effort.

3. Stay out of swarms. It's not a common thing for a lower level character to face, but swarms will wreck F2P easier than subscribed accounts since "room effect" spells (i.e. E-Wave) are restricted with a 30 second CD, or some are blocked completely. I don't think F2P can use 709, for example.

Not sure I'd do OTF ducts until 80 ish but maybe I was just cautious. Those brought me up to 90. Then it got a little difficult to fry.
