a square auction block

This is an in game item Simu gave out for donating to the Simucon Indiegogo campaign this year. You can auction stuff with it! It’s not attuned. If you’d like to test it out just let me know. It’s a really nifty little item and I was thinking it would be great for any organization/house that doesn’t already have one.

examine my block
You see nothing unusual.

inspect my block
Inspecting that may not be a sound idea.

analy my block
You analyze your auction block and sense that the item is largely free from merchant alteration restrictions, but the creator has stated that "The item type should not change."
The creator has also provided the following information:
The auction block can be used as a tool and prop for setting up your own auctions.
The auction block is LOCKED.
Alteration Guidelines:
The auction block can be altered freely as long as it still reflects being some sort of flat container with an interior and flat upper surface for displaying items for examination.
A gavel is used for messaging which can also be altered, but it must remain a "gavel" and cannot have a long or show.
Usage:
To run an auction: PUT the prize(s) (if desired) on the auction block for your customers to INSPECT and ANALYZE.
PUSH the auction block to toggle between runner-up and non-runner up modes.
BID <amount> block to set the starting bid amount.
POUND the block to begin bidding!
Bidders should BID <amount> block to up their bids.
POUND the block to end bidding.
The winning bidder will get five minutes to return with a note large enough to cover their bid, after which DROPping it in the block will give them the prize(s) you have placed on top (if any).
The profit will be placed inside the block as a note you can extract later.
You can tell that the block is as light as it can get and that its pockets could not possibly get any deeper.

-----

Loresong:
This is a small item, under a pound. In your best estimation, it's worth about 1,000,000 silvers.
From the pitch of the vibration you determine that the purpose of the block is as a container of some kind.

-----

drop block
You carefully set the auction block down onto the ground and fold open its top.

put my lock on block
You carefully place a steel lockpick on top of a square auction block.

Kizzik carefully places a steel lockpick on top of a square auction block. (Nute)

You exclaim, "You can now inspect and analyze the item folks!"

analy lockp (Nute)

You get no sense of whether or not the lockpick may be further lightened. (Nute)

Gingie smiles.

Nute says, "Hmm I do like it."

Nute glances at Gingie.

Nute says, "Mine."

Gingie softly says, "Not."

You say, "Ok next."

You exclaim, "I'm going to set the minimum bid at 100 silvers!"

bid 100 block
Setting the starting bid at 100!

You say, "Ok I'm going to open bidding now."

pound block
Open the auction with a starting bid of 100? POUND the block again to open the bidding!
Opening bid too small? Use BID <amount> block to set a higher starting amount.

You exclaim, "Oh big spender Nute!"

You exclaim, "200 silvers to Nute going once folks!"

Gingie makes a bid of 300 silvers!!!

You glance at Gingie.

You say, "Oh my."

You cough.

You say, "300 silvers to Gingie."

You chuckle.

You say, "Ok Nute's out."

Gingie laughs!

You say, "Let's say it goes twice and thrice."

You exclaim, "Then SOLD!"

pound block
End the bidding at 300? POUND the block again to close the bidding.

pound block
You pound a wooden gavel on the block with a loud *BANG* signalling the end of bidding!
Gingie is the winner! She has approximately 5 minutes to drop a note covering their win into the auction block. If still unpaid after five minutes, Nute will be notified of their chance to pay.

Kizzik pounds a wooden gavel on the block with a loud *BANG* signalling the end of bidding! (Nute)
You are the second highest bidder! Gingie has 5 minutes to pay for their win. If they don't show up, you'll get a chance at the win! (Nute)

You applaud Gingie.

Nute says, "Let me get the note."

Nute just went east.

Nute just arrived.

Nute offers Gingie a Wehnimer's promissory note.

Gingie accepts Nute's promissory note.

You say, "If you please miss."

You point at a square auction block.

You say, "Put that note in there and the item is all yers."

Gingie stuffs a Wehnimer's promissory note in a slot in the block and it disappears from sight!
Gingie quickly grabs a steel lockpick off the top of the auction block.

Gingie bounces around happily.

You beam!

You say, "So neat."

Gingie softly says, "It works."

does it take silvers?

I'm pretty sure it only takes notes. I tried putting and dropping silvers in but it didn't work.

put 100 silver in block
Perhaps you ought to let the owner manage the contents of the block.

Oh one more thing to consider... The unlocked version allows you to hold raffles...
I wonder if Xerria can unlock it!

yeah, they only take notes.
Also, you can not put them down and leave the game.
The janitor gets them.
Last time mine was returned, the GM said, 'it was supposed to stay - try again - and register it'.
I did, but ... keeping fingers crossed I'll get it back twice.

Anyhow, GS4_Brimzstone is right ... it is an epic RP item. Right up there (in Clunks eye) with Voln armor.

Oh ... not for sale.
Now ifn I can keep them yung dwarf prankers from runnin off with it.

Its an awsome item. I have one of the unlocked versions but it has a bug when doing raffles. When someone buys a ticket, you wont be able to see any tickets in the barrel. Functionally the tickets are bought, but no tickets will show as in the barrel. I bugged it of course.

Update on the saga of Clunk's auction block.

A second GM returned Clunks auction block, and said they only stay in game for a short time, consistent with the amount of time a disk would stay in game.

So, plan to stay around when doing an auction, and keep your auctions short.

(any apparent dwarf joke in there was not intended, and sheesh, did that really get 15 million silver?))

Wow, an auction you have to stay online for is rather limiting. Haven't played with mine yet but that's disappointing to hear.

So clunks auction block disapeared even in a room with other players in it?

I doubt it, he said he logged off and it was parked in a room in Zul!

Sounds more like it's designed to be a "live" auction block and not what we typically think of as an auction. Probably best for someone who likes to RP being an actual merchant instead of the typical passive merchanting we are used to thinking of.

I have no qualms with the auction part. The unlocked one is also a raffle table with the same restrictions. A "live" raffle is inherently limiting as you could rarely manage to sell the 99 tickets it limits you to.

Yes, Clunk's was unlocked for raffle capabilities, so not surprisingly he thought he could log off and leave it there.

You mean you have to sell at least 99 tickets for the raffle function to actually work?

Nephelem
09-22-2015, 05:23 PM
No, I mean an auction usually takes longer than the average players time spent logged in to have any chance at selling out based on game population numbers.

Well in Zul I wouldnt be suprised if the janitor took it, since few people are there. The janitor wont clear a room with players in it correct? So I bet if you set it up as a raffle then it wouldnt disapear in TSC.
