Crunching the numbers, it is definitely possible to get the RT of even the largest weapons down to 1 second, while aiming from the open via ambush.

100 ranks of air lore, 51 ranks of Major Elemental would do it.

Has anyone ever tried an aimed THW/Polearm hasted build at cap?

It seems like, especially with a claidhmore, that even if your hit rate was 50%, it would still be preferential to unaimed 1 second shots.

Messing with a freshly capped wizard, they have the TPs to do 1x THW (Or pole), 1x CM, 1x Ambush, 100 ranks of Air Lore, 24 ranks of PF, 1x Harness Power, 51 Major Elemental, 75 Minor Elemental, and 30 Wizard. I also threw in 1x EMC.

This left me with 49 Physical and 409 Mental TPs left to flesh out the rest of the build (Armor, swim/climb, more spells, Arcane Symbols, MIU, etc)

I'm going to assume the big problems with this build is AS and DS. I'm also curious at what the accuracy would be for a large weapon to the head with 1x/1x CM/ambush.

I imagine the obvious answer to this question is, "Why not just do archery?" That seems like the easier way to go, i'm just wondering about viability at cap. Lets say hunting OTF. Assume a 3x claid (they're cheap) or 7x Polearm/THW and pure potions.

Yes.

Yes.

Was it you? If not, did you hear any feedback on how it went? Are they still at it?

Not me! I've never had a capped character. I had a friend who quit around 2011 who did have a fairly high level swinging Wizard. Ambush is fairly expensive but if you're fine with losing out on various skills, it works. Somewhat of a moot idea though, since a lot of warmages use claidhs or mauls or lances, weapons that just flat out maim/kill when you hit. You get some nice kills and it speeds up hunting but when you're swinging at 1 second at a time, it's a very minor trade off.

Probably not gonna be over the stretches without maxing out that air lore.

I'm not sure what you mean.

In all fairness, you'd be pretty amazing with a maul or something heavy if you aimed exclusively for the neck but again, big weapon... so you might shave some swings off your hunting when you can aim reliably.

Imagine the fun you could have with haste and a lightning flaring immolator battle axe.

I think a 7x perfect maul would be the way to go on this build. Fast swing, more AS than a claidh, and easier to aim I believe.

Being that low on wizard spell circle spells at cap will cause your DS to suffer greatly at cap.

Mauls are preferable if you're able to aim due to being 100% crush damage, and head criticals having a death critical at rank 5 on the head. Pair that up, if you can hit your headshot with a high AS, it's guaranteed death... However, likelihood of hitting a rank 9 critical with wizard AS is pretty much nil... still, if you're going to ambush, maul is where.
