Wont mean anything to the majority of people here, but to those in the UK he pioneered real music and was personally responsible for making sure that loads of groups on independant labels got the opportunities to be heard on the radio where most others wouldnt look at them twice.

A sad loss.

Damn. Glastonbury festival highlights won't be the same without him.

I saw him at Glastonbury once when I was little. Didnt talk to him but was like "Ooh look..its John Peel!" Was stood near him watching some band that I have long since forgotten.

Just turned on Radio one and heard, it's so sad. He helped so many amazing bands and artists, a real loss.
