Fresh off the Dais in Illistim.

The green chameleon hisses, "Ninjachamelion VANISH"

The chameleon stands back up.
The chameleon waddles out.

(About a minute later)

A green chameleon waddles into the area.

The green chameleon hisses, "Ninja chamelon APPEAR!

(Edited out the useless junk)

 Vesi. I'm sure there are like 50 GS names (mostly empaths) in that combination you used there.

HEY! I have had a few empaths and I have NEVER used any of that stuff in my names! I've never had that stuff in any of my names! The only 2 combination names I ever had was Nessastar (Because my name is Vanessa and its Hebrew for star) and Nighthealer, and those were back when I was like 14, so there!

Go back to Hebrew school. The letter V does not exist in the Hebrew alphabet and Vanessa is a Greek name, not a Hebrew name ... it means butterfly.

Hey Tsa'ah, perhaps it is you that should return to Hebrew School.

http://www.jewfaq.org/alephbet.htm

Also, just because you're so arrogant, this link has a .wav file that pronounces it.

Re-read.

The LETTER V does not exist in the hebrew alphabet and the name is not hebrew.

It is Greek.

It does not mean star.

It means butterfly.

Also because you are so dense ... re-read the above 20 more times before you respond.

Seran
11-28-2004, 08:32 PM
My response is because the letter V does exist in the Hebrew language. It's pronounced Vav and if you'd look at either of those links, you'd see proof.

Tsa`ah
11-28-2004, 08:42 PM
Actually ... no.

Vav acts as a vowel, not a consenent in most cases.

Vet is Bet, or B. V does not exist. The phonetic sound of V exists, the letter V does not.

[Edited on 11-29-2004 by Tsa`ah]

Vav, usually a consonant pronounced as a "v," is sometimes a vowel pronounced "oo" (u) or "oh" (o). When it is pronounced "oo", pointed texts have a dagesh. When it is pronounced "oh", pointed texts have a dot on top.

Taken from: http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/Judaism/alephbet.html

Maybe you should write them and inform them they are wrong. Also, you might want to do a dogpile search with that above definition and tell all of those sites that they too are wrong.

Tsa`ah
11-28-2004, 09:18 PM
You should comprehend that vav has multiple use and that V does not exist as a letter in the hebrew alphabet.

Perhaps you should comprehend what you are posting.

Side note, I don't actually rock talismans on my bling.

Amberlei

Well, V doesn't exist in the Hebrew alphabet. Neither do G, D, H, T, Z, etc. However, vav does exist, and as posted above frequently serves as a consonant with the sound of our letter v. Additionally, bet, when lacking a dagesh, is voiced as the letter v, or to be more precise, both make the voiced labiodental fricative, which is the sound denoted by the letter "v" in visit or rave.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hebrew_alphabet

No sites for Vanessa being Hebrew for star though. In fact, this seems to indicate that Esther is a Hebrew name meaing star. http://www.my-hebrew-name.com/ and Deganya would be the Hebrew equivalent of Vanessa.

Then we have this image from this site.
http://www.dictionary.co.il/view.php?topics=h3201&offset=20&limit=1

Anyway, I'd say you're both half right, but it's a silly thing to argue about.

The translation of Vanessa into Hebrew means star, its complicated, and I read it in several books so take your Hebrew school comment and shove it where the sun don't shine. The entire point was that even if that is not true I was 14 and under the impression that Vanessa is Star so I made it into my name. Just kill the point of the entire post why don't ya?

Lemme think back to when I believed in a higher entity... Vav, from what I remember, is used for vowellation only, if you look at the ten commandment pillars above the bima, you don't have your dots and lines, but instead Vav's are used to denote vowel placement instead I'm pretty sure, and sometimes in substitutes of Yud's to say Adonai. There is however the modern day "JehoVa" translation in which Vav does get a consenant value I think.

Anyway :blah:

This is because there were no vowels or vowel pointers during the time the 10 were laid to stone.

Vowels and pointers are new(er) to the Hebrew language.

actually I'm older than that, but not too much, and my age doesn't matter because if I was 25 or 30 still playing this game I'd shoot myself because that would mean I have no life and no point on earth. (there are some exceptions to that, but not many)

Not only are you incredibly stupid, but you also lack the god given sense given to a dead tree.

If it wasn't for the 25 - 30 crowd, there would be no gemstone.

Do the world a favor, don't breed.

Speak for yourself.. just because people older than you choose to use GS as thier entertainment rather than something else doesn't mean they don't have a life.. I could say "how typical of someone younger to be so short sighted" but there are quite a few younger people who have more sense than to say something like this.

Entries from behindthename.com:

Vanessa -- Invented by author Jonathan Swift. He arrived at it by rearranging the initial syllables of the first name and surname of Esther Vanhomrigh, his close friend. Vanessa was later used as the name of a genus of butterfly.

Esther -- Possibly means "star" in Persian. Alternatively it could be a Hebrew form of Ishtar, the name of a Persian goddess. The Book of Esther in the Old Testament tells of Queen Esther, the Jewish wife of the king of Persia, who saves many Jews from persecution.

Oh..... Earth is a proper noun. Please capitalize it.
