Eh

Not feeling it like I was for WoD. Elf-only demon hunters don't appeal to me.

I had fun questing in WoD, but quit when I realized that the Garrison system was essentially Facebook.

http://kotaku.com/world-of-warcraft-down-another-1-5-million-subscribers-1722089493

World of Warcraft has hit its lowest subscriber total in ages.
As part of a quarterly financial statement, Blizzard announced that WoW hit a recent-years low of 5.6 million subscribers.
When we last got an official count from Blizzard back in May, WoW was at 7.1 million subscribers. It was a pretty steep drop from the game’s post-Warlords of Draenor high of 10 million
Since then, Blizzard’s expanded Warlords of Draenor’s endgame with some of their most challenging raid content yet, but perhaps it was a case of too little, too late.
Perhaps, if Blizzard can reliably put their expansion factory into overdrive, players will stop canceling subs between expansions, throwing the game into this torrid cycle of boom and bust.

iirc, BC averaged around 7m and was constant growth? Now sub base has dropped below that....

They've reduced the dev time between expansions, too.

In a way that's good because you're not drifting aimlessly for a year after the last content patch hits, but you're also looking at yearly expansions.

I haven't actually subbed in awhile myself. I quit before the game tokens came out and only buy game time with gold. Cuz I'm rich bitch.

They're going for the cool factor for sure. Demon hunters and Illidan. That'll get more subs.

The emerald nightmare and getting to fight gul'dan sounds cool though.

How much does a month usually cost in gold? I don't even know how much I have any more, but I used to have a couple characters at gold cap (was it ever raised past the ~2M, I think it was?). I'm sure I'd be considered poor at this point.

It fluctuates a bit but average is around 25k gold which you could easily make in less than a week in the garrison until they nerfed it. I can still make the sub every month in gold without trying too hard though if I throw a few enchants on the AH.

Yeah, that's not bad. I used to make that and more per day with a few rounds of glyphs on the AH back before they wrecked that with permanent glyphs. I suppose it'd take a little time to get my professions current, but it would be doable if I were to get caught up a little prior to the expansion so that I'd be ready to go when the new stuff rolled in. Still a good bit of work, though, between JC, inscription, enchanting (allowing them to be placed on paper via inscription was the best thing enchanting ever saw happen to it), and some of the lesser professions like tailoring and smithing. I played Mists briefly and doubt many (if any) of those skills were capped at that point. Several probably never even got into the Mists level of crafting.

Have you played WoW since Mists? There were some major changes to crafting in WoD, and it's pretty difficult to make money off most professions... at least, more difficult than it once was.

I am currently doing a few BGs a day to hit honour cap, then buying an inventory full of brutal gladiator's mutilator from the vendor in SW/Org waiting two hours then selling for 640 gold. Along with the gold from garrison missions, I am creating a healthy amount of wow schpondoolies.

Not since, no. What did they do to rape it?

So... garrisons craft shit for you?

Pretty much. The herb garden churns out herbs, the mine creates ore, and the barn allows you create feasts (bypassing the cooking profession entirely) OR leather OR fur AND allowed collection of the crafting resource that served as the primary gate to upgrades before 6.2. The profession buildings themselves let you create crafted items even without the required skill. For example, you can use the ore you gathered from your mine with 0 mining skill to create intro raid items at a blacksmith with 0 BS skill - the only thing you can't do is create the items which allow you to upgrade ilvl.

The days of mining ore at the start of an expansion to sell on the AH are over. Made a lot of gold doing that.

Yeah, and it sucks that's gone. I didn't need to go out and look for stuff, I made more than enough tooling around in my garrison to keep full production queues. Even leveling an alt I'd just bypass nodes. I think full stacks of 200 ore were going for 50 gold on my server, that's how saturated the crafting market was.

Really, REALLY hoping they'll change it back to something more Mists-like.

Just like in real life, gathering is left to the peons! It's definitely a good source of gold, but once you have enough to buy up the materials, it's a lot easier to profit from crafting instead of scavenging. Sounds like garrisons have Shangai'd my crafting factory and even the few gatherers, though.

How? Just blow up garrisons, either removing them or not updating them or the things they can produce? Seems like a pretty big thing to go back on now, but I haven't played, so can't say for sure.

The garrisons are physically on Draenor, so Blizz could probably just revert professions back to what they used to be like. I haven't seen any mention of them being in Legion.
