Ambush Training as non-archer?

Low 60s level OHE Bard here, currently 1x in Combat Maneuvers, and 0 ranks ambush training. One of my main strategies in attack against non-undead foes has been to lullaby, then open ambush either the legs or the head (depending on how easy the foe is to crit). My aim's a bit unreliable, and when I get spare training points I was thinking of putting them in either CM or Ambush to improve it.

Would a few Ambush ranks/extra (expensive) CM ranks make much of a difference in ambushing success? Are either of them common for swinger bards?

For open aiming you'll want about 40 ranks of ambush.

Depending on your race you are likely only going to need 25-30 ranks. I'd suggest getting 25 ranks to start and add ranks in batches of 5 up to 40 until you are comfortable with your ability to aim.
