A very nifty way of defending the city from the safety of one of the towers. People infuse magic into these globes in the tower, and properly trained people can draw on that power to create crystals that work kind of like wizards' familiars but do nasty flare attacks on critters.

StormFront is highly recommended; makes use much, much easier mechanically.
