Downloaded Windows 10, Lich no longer working

Ok, so 2 nights ago, I downloaded Windows 10. I was upgrading from 8 (hated it!).

I cannot get the lich to work. Here is the error message Im getting.

I deleted all files (ruby and lich and SGE) and then went back and re-downloaded everything in the hopes that it would work. I've got others on the FB page saying lich works just fine with their updated windows 10 machines.

I dont know if this has anything to do with it, but I thought I'd throw in as much info as possible. This used to just say lich.rbw, and this is what it looks like now:

I am not up to date on anything tech related, all that went like dust in the wind when I had children, but Im a quick study and so I would appreciate some help or some points in the right direction ;)

Open Lich, go to Link and click Link to SGE and Link to Website.

If you mean the "lich" folder on my computer, there is nothing there that says "link'.

Oh hmm, I didn't see you couldn't even open the lich.rbw. When I was running it, I made sure to associate the lich.rbw with the rubyw.exe found in the ruby directory. Maybe that will help at least launch lich?

Don't try and go in to the game, just bring up the Lich login interface.

Ok, maybe Im being completely dense and not clear at all. ;) I can open lich, and click on quick game entry, click on my char and then I get the error message I posted in the first post.

Are you sure you installed the correct version of Ruby? There are several available and only one of them is correct.

I had some trouble getting SGETask to work in Windows 10, but I found an annoying workaround (it's tolerable). Lich on the other hand.. had issues downloading the map database, but I just didn't give it long enough. It fixed itself. The DOS prompts Lich installation opens also were very slow to show that they were doing anything, but it did work.

I had absolutely no problems in my 8.1 to 10 upgrade... Lich works fine...

Although, it appeared that a .SAL file was no longer associated with your Simutronics Game entry, based on the original image. Make sure that you've at least logged into the game once, associated the filetype with the SGE, and you should be more set?

Ok, so I deleted the sge and tried to redownload, it's trying to download inot a ruby folder for some reason, and of course, I delted all that, and Im trying to put it in the simu folder and it won't let me.....jesus Christ on a bike this is killing me and making no sense.

Ok, I was able to type in the destination, but Im not able to get the launcher to work. A windows box pops up and asks if it's ok if it makes changes, I click yes and then.....nothing.

But I wasn't able to put in the program files folder, like you say earlier.

I deleted some rogue simu files, did a system restart and was able to download and install the simu launcher. I have now sucessfully entered the game, though without lich sadly. So onto my next task.

After hearing some mixef success with 10, think I am going to stick with 8.1 for the time being, I do not have any particulate feeling about it one way or the other. Truthfully I miss XP, still think it was the most stable OS microsoft has released since maybe 95.

It installed in both places actually, automatically, and im not sure which one lich is trying to look at because the error just says

C:PROGRA~2\SIMU\Launcher.exe is an "invalid argument".

Having a similar problem after installing windows 10. I cannot log into the game using Stromfront with Lich. I have no problem logging in with the wizard using Lich. When I try to login using Stormfront I get the error connect failed: gethostbyname() returned 11001. Someone told me that I might have to remove the read only from the stormfront folder, but I have failed miserably at this. I changed the security setting to full permissions, but still can't set the folder itself to write. At this point I have the options of using Stormfront through the SGE with no lich which I would miss, or use the Wizard through Lich and miss some nice scripts that seem not to work in the wizard. Hopefully someone can give me direction on how to solve this problem.

Actually... I first linked it to the web and it didn't work. It linked and the box on the left went dark like you said. I then unlinked the web one and clicked on the SGE one. I also had the same result, it didn't brighten the box on the right. Plus, I changed my Win 10 settings so it wouldn't notify me of changes because that just annoys the @!%$ out of me. I just went back to the start and clicked my character and it went. Not sure if that helps at all.

EDIT: Ok, I see what you're saying, Yes, i have a typo in there. There is a slash there, I have a picture of the error on page 3. sorry, my brain is FRIED right now. Windows can go DIAF. I know people like it for the versatility it offers, but FFS.

And now Im getting these errors. If I close them out, and then try to launch GS from the lich interface again, I get the same error message I posted above. Im at my freaking wits end with this. Anyone have any flipping ideas??

I got those errors when Lich wasn't "linked" to SGE or the website.

I had similar issues but they seem to have resolved on their own after I got those method 1 / method 2 popups. Not that helpful, I know.

All I did was remove everything (lich, simu and ruby), including the SimutronicsAutolauncher from the registry (after trying unsuccessfully to edit said registry). I then emptied recycling bin, system restart and did a fresh install.

Once there, I opened up the lich interface, and was able to click "Link to website". From there, lich opened up SF with a swiftness and ease that can only be described as pure joy and relief at being able to use go2 in game again.

I can only imagine that somewhere along the way with updating, something became corrupt.

I haven't had issues with Windows 10 so far, but admittedly this is a clean virtual machine I built so I don't remote desktop into home PC all the time.

This was Windows 7 virtual machine, then upgraded to Windows 10. Did normal lich install. I'm going to try to make the switch to Profanity, but needed a windows VM for some stuff anyways.

I have Launcher, I have SGE, I have Ruby, I have Lich, I had problems installing gtk2, so I had to run a commandline like: "c:\ruby200-x64\bin\gem.exe install gtk2" because whatever lich.rbw does when you click it and it says "Ohai, you dont have sqlite or gtk2, let me install that for you" wasn't working (sqlite did work, or at least it stopped asking me about it, gtk2 just kept repeating itself). Anyways, now when I click on lich.rbw, I get the lich window, and my character list, but the "Link" tab is blank, and all the buttons except "Refresh" are greyed out (And no, that button doesn't do anything useful for me). So, I can click "Play" next to any of my characters, and it just closes the lich window, and then nothing happens, no happy Simu windows.

What can I do to "force link" my Lich back to my Wizard? if that is a combination of words that makes sense, that is what I feel like I need to do.

Before worrying about Lich, can you confirm that you can run the simutronics launcher, and have associated the .sal file with the Simu Launcher?

I have had issues with Windows 8 and SF/Lich and sounds like that is probably what is causing these issues for you guys, too. I finally 'fixed' my boot issue by running in W7 compatibility mode. I plan to do a fresh image and skip 8 altogether this time.

Thanks Leifa, that got it. I had to change the compatibility mode for the ruby executable, and then was able to link my lich back to the SGE, and now can log in normally.

Glad my several months of misery and subsequent shameless begging all over Simucon helped others, too! :)
